Thank you so much for your advice. I will add your post to my check list. I have no problem with a 1099 as long as I am going to be listed as the O/O. My last post was not very clear and I apologize. The two offers I was referring to, where from small companies who owned the equipment that I would be operating. They want to list me as a I/C so I would have to pay my own taxes, while they still owned the equipment and received all the right-offs.
It sounds like you are hooked up with a good company. I hope your piggies get well soon. Thanks again!
I am Going To Lease A Truck. Tell me Who To Go With.

I love how people's first instinct is to be nasty and insult. Just answer the question, if you have real answers, or move on!

If you are serious about a lease and wanting to own a truck in the long run check out the third party lease. This is a lease option to where you can move your truck from one company to another. If you lease a truck through a company you are driving for you are at the mercy of those in load planning on how much you make. Don't get in a hurry to lease and get on the road, do your homework and you will find a good deal. Please take my advice and check into the third party leasing. Don't sign your name until you take the paperwork and have an attorney check it out for you. Hope you find the right one for you and HAPPY TRAILS my friend. Be safe out there.
PICNIC Thanks this. -

Having paid for this little nugget of wisdom, like chickenbne said, have a Lawyer look at the lease and that is just what I plan on doing. I will find an Attorney that deals with Lease Agreements and go from there. The same theory applies. Drive Safe! -
Do not do a lease purchase , they are all rip offs!! take your 15 grand put a down payment on a good used truck ,,, then lease on to landstar, or a simaler co.. dont wast your money on a lease!!!!!!

I have no family commitments. I have no House, Car or Credit Card Payment, 0. I have a Cell Phone and Car Insurance Bill every month, that's it besides mostly food and cigarets. I have a Class A CDL with Tanker, Double & Triple and I just passed my Hazmat Test today and paid my $83.00 to Virginia DMV, I should have it in the next 3-4 weeks, according to them. I have a +5 on my license. -5 is the worst you can get before it is suspended. My license is valid till 2019. My DOT Medical Card is valid till November 2014 and I renew it every 2 years. I applied for my Passport Card this morning when I left DMV, cost $55.00, I should have it within 6 weeks.
My desire is to run OTR. I have the mentality to install the fridge / freezer and microwave as I am well aware of what it cost to eat at most truck stops and one of my passions in life is cooking. My paperwork is deadly. I use Quick Books Pro for my receipts. I use Microsoft Street and Trips 2013 with a GPS receiver, as my GPS, 17 inch screen with a mount made to absorb vibrations from the truck. I have the RandMcNally Motor Carrier Laminated 2013 Road Atlas for my Trip Planning. I use Eclipse E-Logs combined with the same GPS Receiver that I use for my GPS. I will run the split log as much as I can, as I very seldom need ten hours of off time, plus driving 5.5 hours driving is a breeze.
I did this in my 20's and 30's, we just did not have all the niceties that are available today. You had a cb radio and change for a phone booth. Drive Safe! -
PICNIC, My apologies to you. I just assumed you were another troll. I found it very hard to believe you have been driving for 20 years and want to lease. Most experienced drivers know better than that and I took it as a sign of a troll.
Sorry for being harsh to you if you are truly asking a real question. With that being said, no, don't lease, it absolutely is not a good idea. Especially if you don't already have an established relationship with a dispatcher. Leasing is designed to make the companies more money, not the driver. If it was a great money making idea, they would not let you in on the secret! If you want to be a real owner operator save your money and either buy a truck out right or if you are set on leasing than do it through Paccar or an established leasing company, not a trucking company where its a third party (or more) lease. With that being said, there is very, very, very little profit margin in leasing. My wife and I did it as a team and could never fathom a solo driver making money at it!
I think if you get a good job as a company driver and do the numbers you will find that you will actually make more money as a company driver than a lease driver. Just the health insurance alone is more than worth it. As a company driver you may pay $20-$40 a week for health insurance. As a lease driver you will be on your own and pay more like $100 a week for health insurance! There are so many other hidden fees and payments and bills they don't tell you about and they really add up to put you upside down when it all comes down to it.
