Yeah, there was less laws I guess but you had to drive trucks that wanted to kill you.
my wife’s dad drove trucks in the 70s until the 2000’s. A lot of fun stories for sure and wild times but also a lot of not so fun stuff he had to deal with.

When abs first was mandated, they had a rash of accidents. Some argued it wasn’t perfected, which I still believe is true, simply because the abs Manufacturers lobbied for the mandate. All I know is I had to stand on the brakes, first run in my 2000 to keep from blowing through a toll booth. Still don’t like the added stopping distance in an emergency, standing on them, dry pavement, keeps rolling. Yet all the studies show, blah blah blah. Give Me the old solid brakes. My foot has a built in sensor, Lol
