You don't need anything special to run in Canada. It just needs to be on your cab card like all the other states.

Well the reason I asked this question is because when I drove as a lease operator for EW Wylie corp they had an authority from all provinces of Canada

yes you will need authority for the Providences you plan to run in, look in the front of your truck atlas and it will have the contact info there. Or do a Google search

  6. You will need a separate insurance coverage for Canada. Talk to your insurance carrier. As well as passport for the driver. Don't have even a parking ticket. They are sticklers for anything on a background check.

might need permits for super singles in some provinces, but I don't think BC & NWT care.

Not sure where you people are coming up with this authority to run in Canada. I have my own U.S. authority. I own the company. I run in Canada all the time. The ONLY thing you need is which provinces you want to run on your cab card. It's a simple check mark when you get your plate. THAT'S IT!

There is NO such thing as a U.S. truck having Canadian authority.

So, to the original poster. When you go to get your plate you check off all the states you want to run in and all the Canadian Provinces also and your done.

Since the first of January 2015 you do not get to pick States and provinces on your IRP registration any more. You will have to buy 58 States and provinces. If you go to Alaska you will have to get trip permits for Yukon and Alaska or get a plate and fuel bond for the Yukon and plates for Alaska. BC requires a financial responsibility filing from your insurance carrier. Also truck wheelbase over 244" will require an over length permit which costs $30.00 and is good for 30 days. Furthermore, you have different HOS rules to follow and spread and lift axles have certain rules as well.
