Listen, if you have the drive and ambition to go and get your CDL and get into the trucking industry, then it'll happen. There are going to be a lot of people that wont hire you due to your background. Although, had you not had a background, THERE STILL WOULD BE COUNTLESS PEOPLE THAT WOULDN'T HIRE YOU. Like one post said, this is a blue collar industry. With the exception of a couple companies that require you to wear uniform at the point of pick up and delivery, most truckers are fat, sloppy, shower skipping, meatloaf eaters(probably like the idiot in the earlier post that spends his check on lot lizards or who's wife eats as much meatloaf as him). Not bashing truckers because I'm a trucker myself. Point is, criticism like this is ignorant and is very inaccurate. Non drivers have an image about truckers...because of people like him. It's very possible. I'm not a career criminal but a have 3 counts of armed robbery on my criminal background(all which happened in the same incident). With online apps, employers often have filters that automatically disqualify applicants by the "background" question. So they wouldn't know that I also have a bachelors degree lol. Don't wait the two years... Don't forget about your past... Let THAT, your wife and child be your motivation to fulfill your dream. Find a few companies that will give you a prehire that fit you and your families needs. Ask PLENTY of questions. Make sure to get your wife's input on your decision. Smaller companies are often the better ones. The pay is often better and you more times than not get to talk to more than just a recruiter who gets paid off getting you to attend orientation. Once you find a couple of people that would hire you with your background and lack of experience, start looking at ways to fund getting your CDL. See about getting financed. The payback amount is pennies compared to your potential earnings. Not saying to quit your job and go full forced on getting your CDL because you still have responsibilities as a man. But put in extra work. I got out in 2011 from doing 4 years in prison and I still went back the old school way. In between working two fast food jobs to provide for my family, I grabbed the phone book and got to it. Not saying it was easy but it paid off. I saved enough money to cover my bills while I was getting my CDL and started working a job that hauls step decks making .40-.50/mile, depending whether empty, loaded, or OD. Well maintained equipment and we run paper logs. So in my first year of driving,I make more money than a lot of drivers that drive for the big companies that wont hire people with felonies. Getting your record expunged won't be an issue with a CDL depending on where you live. And don't let your background determine your future. I have my TWIC and hazmat so anything is possible if you're hungry to go get it. So keep your head up and follow your dream.

Respect is earned not given.....simple. Luke's 100 % correct , trucking company owners invest tons and tons of their money into a very tough dog eat dog business , the equipment is expensive , the operating cost are also , so he was only letting you know something you really need to know and be told. Those type of convictions will and should keep from a really good trucking job , for a fairly long time period too....you've got a very long hard road to head down , and trucking for you especially right now since the convictions are so recent would be a waste of your time and money...Find some other career path , do that for a few years , show potential employers that you really want to do as you say , with some time , and a good solid work history behind you , you'll find that many more , and much better companies will be willing to at least talk with you.....some won't ever , but there are some who will...

Everybody is a criminal. Some just get convicted lol. I'm sure he's taken something, sped up and down the highway, blew through a red light, got some action by one of these foot dragging lot lizards or something. I'm leaning towards the later. A crime is a crime. And most are unethical if ethics is why he's preaching on this man not being able to land a good driving job. Like a truck driver is such an elite job. We drive f****** trucks lol!!!

easy don't hurt there pride. being a truck driver without a felony is all a lot of these people have to feel good about. hence why they take such strong moral stands on how people with felonies are terrible people and they shouldn't drive trucks blah blah.

I guess I'll back off lol. It's just a little aggravating. Everybody wasn't born into trucking driving a cab over lol. It's not like you need a degree to do it. Anybody with a LITTLE common sense and coordination can do it.

People change its not impossible I would give anybody a chance who cleaned up their act. And hasn't been in trouble in let's say those four years. As long as stuff doesn't start disappearing and you're a hard working individual. There is big bottom feeders though that would hire you I don't doubt it.
