.....and another thing. To those that say there will always be a job in trucking and the country can't run without truck drivers blah, blah, blah. Yes that is true but the gov't knows this therefore you are in a government run business. When drivers get short they will immigrate new cheap labor because no way in hell are they going to let a lack of trucks put the country in recession.

If truckers aren't bragging they're complaining!
Usually most are complaining about those that are bragging

most OTR jobs are under paid when you consider the amount of hours you put in. i did it for 6 years and never again for mileage pay. i will not take some one else's truck to the repair shop and sit there for hours not getting paid, i will not fuel some one else truck with out getting paid, why should a driver be expected to sit at a reciever / shipper for hours on end not being paid. (there were a few places we would pick up at that it would take 10 to 24 hours for them to load your trailer and you had to stay hooked to the trailer.) i never understood why drivers are expected to work for free. if i wanted all those headaches i would be a o/o. -
I don't know how you come up with with 2000.00 but if you don't like the job no amount of money will change that. Do yourself a favor and quit.BrenYoda883 Thanks this. -

If you look at Job titles, the more responsibility that person has, the more he/she gets paid,,,over all. A Pharmacist makes 6 figures, right out of college, they don't work too hard, home every night and don't work more than 40 hrs. But, they are responsible for peoples lives,,,wrong pill and a person dies, the Pharmacist gets the heat. A CEO of a major company, makes Millions but, they are responsible for the companies growth, and will loose their job if they don't make the numbers. Not to mention the stress with the job, could you imagine?
So my point is; Professional Truck Drivers, not just any truck driver, are responsible for a lot of different things, including making sure they don't take someones life but, not directly like a Dr. I think we are right where we should be, maybe a little higher starting out as a noobie but, some O/O's are making great money, as they should and, some company driver's make great money, as they should. So the opportunity is out there to make great money and get the home time you want and the benefits.
But as far as a Federally Mandated Minimum wage.... I agree with G/Man, any wage increase the Gov mandates is only going to get taken back in the end, by way of higher prices at the counter and more taxes. Sure, people make more money and the economy gets better, for a minute! It does catch up and than we are worse off than we were before the increase in minimum wage. This whole $10 an hour crap is just going to push this Country further over the cliff... Yes, at first, life will look great but, it will catch up and than life won't look so great...sherlock510 Thanks this.
