If you are going to throw out numbers at least know how to do math..this is where I chimed in and gave my opinion...
If your going to throw numbers out there make sure they are valid
Only thing I feel that lacks in my pay is paid on-duty time or the the lack of it, that is why I log the absolute minimum on line 4 on every trip that my carrier requires.
The real issue is the unpaid time at shippers/receivers and uncompensated line 4 time.
In regards to per mile pay as I stated before, there is a wide range and where YOU fit in that range is all on YOU, do your research BEFORE you get into this field and find a carrier that pays a fair wage for your experience level.
I started out in this field almost 6 years ago, instead of pay per mile I came on in a salary position ( was offered as an option and is what I chose ) My 1st year I made just under 50k left that carrier for greener pastures after almost 2 years with them.
You don't have to start off making crap wages. just under 50k 1st year w/o experience I feel was a fair shake YMMV -
Interesting statistics regarding the total percentage of jobs in the US that are low wage compared to how other developed countries are fairing.
Surfer Joe and Livininabox Thank this. -
The base issue is we are converting to a almost pure consupmtipn socity vs a producing one. We make food, and some manufacturing but in large cheaper labor, cheaper land, fewer restricrions and employee rights, along with the obligitory tax issues have pushed alot of former us production over seas. The thing is i dont nessaraly disagree with there choice. Its become a bottom line game and there playing as best they can. Anyone who says if i ran that business it would be all amarican is fooling themselfs. The reality of world market enconomics is simple, its going to get a hell of alot worse before it gets better.
texasbbqbest and Brandson Thank this. -
Right.
I really have no idea why you're arguing with me about this. Something in your mind requires others to suffer, or something. These are just typical entitled right-wing Baby Boomer thought patterns, nothing new under the Sun actually.
Pointing out that OTR trucking pays sucks has made me some kind of target for you, for some reason.
Get over it and get with the times, which are a-changin...
Until everyone who drives a truck decides that this sucks and they're not going to take it any more, it's going to continue.
Because serfs can drive trucks, too!
I am arguing with you because you made statements that aren't valid and I don't agree with.
You chose to bring religion/politics to the table which I clearly stated I have no agenda for.
I don't think Otr trucking pay sucks and this is where we disagree.(just because some make bad choices in trucking doesn't mean ALL truckers must think this sucks)
The only point you are correct on is times are a-changin...and it ain't for the better
I say prove your worth...we aren't entitled to nothing.. and that's where I'll chime out -

HOW MUCH DO YOU WANT DRIVERS TO PUT UP WITH?!?
This job sucks. Long hours, little time at home, dangerous, constantly micromanaged (for some) and a daily dose of stress, knowing that a screw up could kill people and/or lose you your job/license.
This job is in demand, unpleasant, life sucking and dangerous to name the majors. Don't talk to me like I'm a whiny little brat for wanting a proper compensation. You may have done this longer, but our last year has been the same if you're an OTR guy. -
Take what you're given and move on, driver. -
This job sucks, doesn't it!? Why are we even out here?
-
... this is the Rocky Mountains!
Didn't you put New York in the GPS!!!????
