There is truth to that.. when I was out with my trainer and we were rolling team.. I would shift good, whenever he came up front and sat in the passenger.. I would start having difficulties...

To the OP, relax, you will get it.. at one learning to tie your own shoes was just as difficult and frustrating for you and you got that down.. yoh will get double clutching down too...

Well, I appreciate the advice guys! The funny thing is, is that I understand how double clutching works......hell I could teach a class on it. lol. My problem is actually doing it right and having the timing down!

Like today..... We started in third gear.....Get it up to 1300, clutch, neutral, shift into 4th at 1000....... Well that all sounds great....lol. but I was wanting to push the clutch too far down, or I was dropping below 1000 too fast to shift to fourth. I get the concept, it's just like my uncoordinated dumb feet cant get the timing right. I did better in the higher gears than the lower ones too. I even doubled down a couple of times ok, but my shifting is just God awful. I was totally embarrassed. The instructor still told me that I wasn't the worst and that I would get it......but I sure felt defeated when I got out of that truck today.

Hopefully tomorrow will be better! I will try my tail off anyways! Thanks again for all the advice!

Thank God in New York State nor the school or DMV Road Test examiner will ask you to double clutch.

They will teach you at school but it is not mandatory.

I heard some companies want you to double clutch.

I personally believe that floating gears is the best and easies way to shift once you get the hang of it and it also saves clutch life :)

Take your time. First time doing something will always be hard and frustrating and self-disappointing...

You have to give your brain time to sink in and process the information.

Techniques and skill develop on their own but they also sink in faster with a positive attitude.

Try not to stay up all night watching videos. It will be harder in the morning with a tired brain.

    Good luck buddy!

Thanks. I am going to keep on "trucking"......and try my damnedest to get it right! ........... or I will invest in a company that makes the gears in the truck, and make a fortune! lmao.

7:00 A.M on the road in the morning. Pray for me. lol.

I'll let you guys know if I improved from the grade I gave myself today of F--- to F+ tomorrow! :biggrin_25519:

The only thing I've ever double clutched is our old 5 and a 4 and 5 and a 3 grain trucks. I've never double clutched a big truck and probably never will. Don't sweat it.

Yeah that's what most truckers that I know say. lol. However, the school and Alabama DPS require it for the CDL road test.

If you can just make it past the dot driving test you won't have to do it anymore.

Not very many drivers double clutch after getting out in the real world.

It's a hoop you have to jump through while in the circus they call driver training.

They should train people for real life situations, not the fantasy world they envision.

    Daddy always knows best tho.

EDIT: The rhythm that someone mentioned about the song is what you go for when doing it.

Just push the clutch in a couple inches or so and not like a regular car (to the floor). Keep the seat back far enough so that you can't push it in all the way.

When you come to a stop you'll have to skooch (sp) up on the seat to push it in to the floor tho.
