You're coming out of gear too early. It sounds like he's trying to teach you progressive shifting from the start. You have to get the basics down first. Take it up to 1550-1600 before shifting to the next gear.

Double clutching sucks and I think everyone here can agree lol. Just don't focuse on your feet if you focuse on your feet and driving and the rpm at the same time you will over load your brain and never learn ahah. Just be calm with it at 15-17 rpm press clutch pull out then press clutch and pull into gear if the Rpm drops quick tap on the throttle clutch in and gear down. I guess it's easier said than done haha. Good luck

The other thing I do (still) is to not rev the rpm up to 1500+.

Shift early at like, 1200 or so. It will slip in easier. Your training with an empty trailer. No need to rev it up.

Your not in a hurry to get anywhere.

Information overload for you right now with what everyone is telling you I'm sure.

Hope it all helps.

You're probably too young for this, but...when Lawrence Welk would begin a song he would say; "A one and Two", that is the exact rhythm you want for shifting using the "double clutch" method. On the "one beat", ease off the throttle and clutch in, on the "and" bring it out of gear to neutral, on the "two" clutch in, on the "and" go to gear. Remember, with a properly adjusted clutch, that pedal only needs to be depressed about 2 inches.

Try as I call it, "the band leader rhythm method". Worked for all my students who had trouble.

the rhythm you want is at the 42 second time in this video:

The timing of shifting is the same wheater or not you use the clutch. If you have the timing down double clutching should not complicate your life, and it will for a fact extend the life of the transmission.

Clutch
Snap your fingers
Clutch again

Simple rythym.

Could be your rpms & not your rythym.

1600 for old junkers
1300 for newer trucks
Is plenty in high range if you are going to clutch in & out.

Right no need to rev it up.... for an experienced driver. He's a brand new driver. You don't go straight to progressive shifting or floating or they get confused. The plain basics of 1000 and 1600 gives them plenty of time to do their shift. Then as he improves he can start tightening up. At least that's the way our school taught us and it worked good. You have to think like it was when you were a trainee and not how you shift now.

I may be one of the few that still double clutches.I try not to float the gears because Heyl prefers that I don't,but old habits are hard to brake.

OP, you can't possibly be the worst double clutched in the world! It's inconceivable!! Because that's MY title, and I don't recall any challenges for my championship belt as "International Champion Worst Double Clutcher".

And I've been doing this job a heck of a lot longer than you....
