I can tell you from experience that, even at low pressure of ATV tires, those plugs hurt when they come shooting out at your face.

OK. So the proper procedure should have been to "deflate" the tire first to almost no pressure inside, do the plugin steps and only then then pump the air...
But would it not fall off the rim when it has 0 PSI?

I do carry a hose too that you attach to a glad hand.

I almost always have pressure in mine when I plug them. Maybe 30-40 PSI though

Guess I've always plugged with air in the tire and it's a bugger. If I try it now with next to no air in the tire and the plug slides right in? Not sure if I'll be happy or mad

Should run right down to the end of the tire life. I have plugged drive that's lasted well over 50k so far

Nope, once bead is set, youre usually good, exceptions, wide singles, steer tires with tire on ground, the weight will deform tire and break bead seal

I like to patch with some air pressure 30 or so is fine, no pressure runs the risk of coming off the bead but if that happens I use ether AKA starting fluid to blow it back on but be careful you can get burned I have done paddle tires on buggies, big tractor tires and of course semi truck tires. I use a long stick to get the fire to the tire, 3 feet seems to keep me safe lots of videos on you tube on how to do it

We'd have about 30 of these bad boys on every single one of our tires on our old dump trucks. Never took a tire off to patch them. Plug her til she explodes.
