There's a 1 mile geofence and 10 mile for off duty. Any carrier that does not provide nor recognize off duty driving is a scumbag outfit that treats their drivers like dirt. Anyone supporting that is a POS as well.

And the misinformation and scare tactics continue. Lol. I seriously doubt an audit will be nitpicking like some fear. I notice DOT doesn’t bother much even looking at logs anymore. The pushers of all the fear are the same old sources. Those that are selling compliance help.

I don't know where you get your information but Its Under 5 mph or 2.0 miles before it automatically switches to the drive line. If you log out of an ELD and move the truck at 5 mph or more it doesn't matter how far it will trigger a driving event. I have had guys screw up 34 hour restarts for bumping that for 7 seconds trying to creep around the yard instead of putting it on Line 5 Off Duty Driving. I also don't know where you get your geofence information because you can pull GPS coordinates from the EOBR, and just the Landmark data which DOT cops see is down to tenth of a mile.

A company is free to set whatever parameters within the rule they want, have whatever PC policy or Yard move policy they want, and the lawyer that sues them out of business when a driver has an accident will thank them for that policy.

    Try again...

I'll say it again...off duty driving is legal. Any carrier that punishes their drivers for moving the truck while off duty (especially on private property) is a POS just like the even darker turds that support that type of treatment. Last I checked, slavery ended in 1865 here in the States.

Creeping around a lot trying not to bump the driver line isn't the same as Personal Use that: Reduces location accuracy to a 10-mile radius when vehicle is used for authorized personal use this is talking about. The 1 mile recording accuracy is the maximum, if you are using GPS tracking I assure you it is below that. upload_2025-6-24_15-22-38.png See i can see within a tenth of a mile or upload_2025-6-24_15-23-11.png I can get even more accurate. I can even see when Truck is at the back of the customer lot and side of the lot upload_2025-6-24_15-25-40.png way more close than the 1 mile you seem to think.

That just goes to show how much the carrier thinks of it's drivers but doesn't change the fact that off duty driving is legal. If an ELD shows a small movement on private property after a deactivated ELD is plugged back in it means absolutely nothing.

It doesn't and off duty driving is legal but not in the scenario that was presented. You can't use PC to move from a dock to the side lot of a customer to strap and tarp or to keep from interrupting your break, or as one driver tried to drive to the customer across the street from where he parked. You can off duty drive even under a load to go get Tacos, or see a Movie, or other things not involving job readiness. Is DOT going to cite you for it probably not, are they going to cite you for it when they see it as a unassigned driving event with no driver logged into the device yes. Is an attorney going to absolutely eat you and your company alive in court if you get in an accident during that logging cycle, 1000%.

I'm perfectly aware of what PC is and what's illegal but I was under the impression he wanted to move the truck from one spot to another at a truck stop. Trying to keep it under 5 mph was an issue unless I read it wrong.
