Update: My sorted past has caught up with me! Three DUI's the last one being over 23 years ago and a CLEAN RECORD ever since, got me let go at WERNER orientation day 2. Seems there is no redemption in the trucking industry. US Express told me if I could get 6 months experience they would hire me, but no one will hire me so I can get the 6 months experience. It has been almost a year and I am giving up on trucking as a career. I honestly didn't think that problems I had 23 years ago would undo all the good I have done since. Oh well, should have listened to Mom & Dad! I've moved back to Maine and will see where life takes me!

I was wondering. Did yu mention those DUIs at the time of application? Because I think the consequences may have been because you failed to mention them if that's the case. Just wondering. If you did tell them at the start then that would be crappy for a company to lead you on and then can you at the last minute.

If you decide you REALLY want to get into trucking, you could bite the bullet and call EVERY company out there and take whoever will hire you and get that six months experience. It may be a rotten six months but six months is a drop in the bucket of life.

23 year old charge STILL affects who hires you? To me, that's completely ridiculous!! 23 years is a lifetime!! Your record has been clean ever since so they shouldn't even think about 23 years ago. Good luck whatever you decide to do :)

Hello All, Just wanted to update on my trucking problems. I was asked at the school interview what my driving history was BACK 7 YEARS! Told them I had some old DUI'S that the most recent was 23 years ago, clean record since. They said no problem.
I pass the course, I get my license and all the endorsements. I get bused out to Werner, and on day two of orientation the ask on the forms, "Have you EVER" been arrested for ANYTHING. So being the honest guy that I am gave them the complete rundown of my troubled youth. Next day I get a bus ticket back home.
I have given up on driving, hell I'd have to almost start from scratch again. I'm working for the Postal Service in a non-driving capacity.
I think the schools are set up this way to get your cash. I should have had the same forms and questions to fill out on my pre-approval for hiring as when I got there.
Between the Mexicans, diesel prices, & government regulations for our "green" eco-friendly future I'm probably better off. Just wait to see what happens if Obahma gets in.:biggrin_2554:
