OK, this has me a little uneasy even though the person at the school I chose seemed to think it wasn't going to be a big deal(As long as he gets money what does he care, right?). In my previous employment history I have been unemployed since May of 2008 to stay at home with the kids with the exception of one month of work for a staffing company to pay my wife's insurance while she was on maternity leave. During that time I have done some lawn care work on the side but haven't received paychecks from a company in almost 4 years aside from the temporary job I had.

I just have this uneasy feeling that I will get my CDL and nobody will hire me. My driving record is clean as well as no police record or anything like that. Will that outweigh not having the "ideal" looking work history. I'm sure to some if not most companies this will be a problem but am I over worrying myself?

    Thanks in advance for replies.

You have nothing to worry about. To fill out employment history gaps, write "unemployed" in the allocated time slot.

I doubt if you'll have much to worry about. Just explain your family and financial situation. You may even want to attach a brief statement with any applications. I went to trucking school with a guy that was a stay-at-home Dad for several years and he had no problems getting job offers.

I had a similar situation for employment history and at the time just decided to be a stay at home dad. I was unemployed from dec 2008 til July 2011. I just had to fill out a employment gap paper and then get sign statements from three people that knew I was not working and was a stay at home dad.

Wasn't a big deal. They just have to document your history.

Forget about PRIME and some other company I forgot the name of.

I was on Unemployment for 2 yrs roughly and there were 2 trucking companies that wouldn't have anything to do with me because of it.

However, with a clean driving/criminal record, you shouldn't have a problem getting on SOMEWHERE.

I wouldn't be too concerned. The fact that you have a clean MVR and no record are real strong positives. Do well in school, that's VERY important!

Go talk to Tim Conner or Matt in the Training/Safety Dept. at the Watkins Shepard Terminal in Conover, NC. You'll be home most weekends, and gross $40,000 - $50,000 first year

Yep. I was about to post that you live in a prime spot for trucking right next to I-40 and I-77. Go visit some companies face to face and see what they have to say.

As long as you can give references that will verify your status as a primary caregiver, you shouldn't have a problem.
