On a side note, I loaded some skids in a nasty neighborhood in Detroit last week, I had him put 14 down the middle on a covered wagon, I put the first one up against the bulk head and the rest up against that one in a single line, I threw 1 strap on the back one, threw my tarp and took it down to the next truck stop on I75 to finish throwing my straps....I wasn't spending anymore time in that place than I had to!

From the photo the truck had no bracing for side movement such as saddles or wedges, if most states find a driver rolling with just two straps and no other securement for movement they can write you up with a easy bake ticket. I hauled 8 foot diameter by 40 feet long pipe out of Thompson pipe and steel from Denver to D.C. for a year, they had a field day with us since the pipe company just plopped the pipe on us and we strapped it down.

The pipe was a nightmare for us with no saddles or bracing and being young and stupid I listened when they said that is all I needed.

Do not blame you one bit, took a truck into Detroit a month or so back, I called ahead and told them I was coming and was warned do not sit, stop or sleep outside the gate.

The man loading me told me "your better off to go sit in your truck" I said to him "i'm okay i'll just stand out here while your loading me" and he just repeated himself telling me i better go sit in my truck.

The place I picked up they gave orders to the workers over the loud speaker from behind bullet proof glass in a whole separate building (that's where I had to go to get my bills).

I hate detroit, it could fall off the map right into canada for all I care.

I know covered waggon drivers that only use the one on the end and roll with it.

how about the old saying , "oh,it's too heavy too move". lol. hear it all time.

Two straps in the first 10' plus another strap for every additional 10' or fraction thereof. Eleven foot long load? Three straps minimum (assuming they meet the weight requirement).

Which are also only as good as the winch/anchor point being used. It's the reason I don't carry 1/2" chains. Almost none of the trailers I use have securement rated over 5,500-6,000 lbs.

I honestly would have ran a 4" strap every 8 feet and a chain around the middle of each pipe just incase a strap gave loose. Just the way i do things

I always used the rule of thumb of one strap every 4 feet no matter what the load weighed. With the holes in the front of the pipe all the way around the rim it screamed Cross Chain right at me to prevent front and rear movement.

Indeed. A 10 ft load would have gotten 3 straps from me. If one broke the other 2 would have held it.
