I find it funny that all the log haulers I know can drive their trucks up and down narrow mountain roads, turn around on tight landings in pitch black surrounded by stumps and brush piles, back up 2 kilometers in the dark to the loader, diff deep mud in spring and their trucks look better at the 5 year trade in than most highway trucks look after 6 months.

I lose a mud flap atlest once a year and I still owe someone on a mountain top in west Virginia a wooden fence from my time as a rookie

Park it and blame it on a tree or the wall

If that happens to an owner operator with 1 truck. His downtime cost him a lot of money. A company driver gets a different truck. Which means They could care less ! That is the problem

Exactly the problem it's pretty simple to understand, unless you're one that doesn't believe in being honest or that hitting a truck no matter how minor in your mind, is a big deal to the guy that you now put down having to go fix a mirror and losing possibly a day of pay ...

If I even so much as grazed another truck, I'd die of embarrassment right on the spot. It floors me that anyone could think trading paint is just part of the job.

Tearing up your own truck in a bad position is one thing. I carry chains year-round in case I feel the need to get western. But I'd never be careless around someone else's equipment.

    Driver: "I hit a mirror"

Next Driver: "I carry chains year-round in case I feel the need to get western."

    Me: "Huh?"
