I'm not trying to sound like a wuss. But Since I got hired by this company in June of 2015 I have been home for a total of 4 days. I was promised in my contract one day home for every week out. My latest stint had me out since Thanksgiving, and I'm still not home.
Every time I ask about going home I either get ignored or told that they are working on it. What do? What are my options besides quitting? Is this acceptable?
Life isn't fun. All the money in the world doesn't matter if I never get to have any time off.
I can never go home

Start putting in your home time requests and hold the company to it.
If they cannot or will not honor that, go somewhere else. There are companies out there that you can get miles and be home regularly.Dominick253 Thanks this. -
Some dispatchers just like to see how far they can push.
Pick a date a week away, tell them you have to be home then for x many days. Remind them constantly, then when the time comes, just go. They'll know what you're doing. You don't have to get mad, or argue. 24-48hours before you go, if you're offered a load that you know won't work out, tell them they'll need to set up a switch.
I ran team once, we had to do this only once. We reminded dispatch for two weeks of an important family event. We got to within two hundred miles on the final day, they gave us another dispatch that went two days out of the way. We calmly said, no, you've known about this for two weeks, we'll be back in four days, and bob tailed home.
We called in on day five and everything was fine. Never had a problem getting home after that.Dominick253, MidWest_MacDaddy, tucker and 4 others Thank this. -

I'd say it's time to move on. Maybe look into regional work. You could try scouting the area around where you live and see what companies are pulling loads out of this area. If you can find one that has a major customer nearby the chances you will get by the house improve. I run NE regional so getting home isn't an issue anyways but our main shipper is in the town I live in. I usually make it home every other night or at least long enough for an 8 hour SB. It's also helpful because this shipper tends to take FOREVER to load our trailers and it's much less agrivating to call them from my couch rather than sitting in front of a trailer staring at that blinking red light.
Good luck driver. If you can find the right fit for you, the job really can be quite enjoyable.Dominick253 and Moving Forward Thank this.
