TampaTony, working on a percentage of truck revenue isn't a bad gig IF the truck revenue is large. Sounds like the truck is earning in the neighborhood of $3500 per week AND you are working a lot of hours to accomplish that.

You are hauling freight with low line haul rates. Try getting on with a company that hauls higher revenue freight. Perhaps in your area that's impossible. Look into the general OKC area. Plenty of cheap real estate, low cost of living, and lots of trucking jobs.

I started flatbedding to the oil patch out of OKC last May (I know, bad timing). I'm paid 25% TTT and consider anything less than $5K TTT to be a very disappointing week. Good weeks are north of $8K. It's disappointing now, but by controlling my budget I'm still on track get my own truck. With my job I'm home at least a few nights a week, most runs are local.

Beyond the patch there's plenty of trucking jobs here.

"Sacrifice" is a relative term, isn't it? I grew up poor, but didn't know that until I went to college and mixed with students who came from wealth. I never felt I "sacrificed" anything during my youth. I had everything I needed. The spoiled kids in college didn't impress me as being happier. Quite the opposite.

In today's society, where advertising is considered free speech, we are drowning in ubiquitous clanging commercials, all promising "Happy Happy Joy Joy!" If we only eat McVomit burgers or wear Abercrombie and #### clothes.

This really hit home to me just how overpowering advertising is for today's youth, when my wife and I downsized from a suburban house to a small apartment after our kids grew up. Their closets were so STUFFED with brand name junk clothes they literally could not hang anything. Total crap quality and expensive rags. But they HAD to have them because they had BRAND NAMES on them to impress their "friends", brands with the advertising budgets larger than their cost of goods.

Now my kids are on the verge of becoming parents, and one of their biggest fears is THEIR kids will succumb to the IDIOCY of advertising. It was quite a conversation last Christmas.

Sacrifice? How about being more focused on happiness? It's surprising how much of a bargain happiness can be.

I want to work where you are. Id give my left...well you know what to bring home over 1200 dollars a week. Just can't catch a break. Even in the patch my max was 2500 every two weeks.
