My heater turns on just fine.. I set the temp, it warms up, once it reaches its temp setting it cuts off. The problem is it never turns back on after the temp drops again. I assume this is not how it is supposed to work? If I set it on a really high temp like 83 it stays on but then it gets too hot in my truck. One night it was really cold so I set it on 83 and it stayed on with a lower fan RPM until the batteries got low many hours later. That is how I assume it to always work. I never had it come back on automatically though.

It may not be related to temperature. How old is it and when was it serviced last? The flame tube and screen require regular service and if they are clogged will prevent it from firing up or staying lit. When it turns on and you hear it start to work, look at the exhaust tube, if it’s smoking a lot or you’re getting a lot of fuel odor, it needs to be cleaned.

I've heard that the easiest way to clean it is to connect the fuel inlet to a bottle of Kerosene and run it on high for a half hour or so...

Bring back to where you had it installed and have them look at it.

All of you who own these heaters needs to run them ONCE A MONTH no matter what, at least 20 minutes to keep stale fuel from clogging it up.

The dealer had one of mine wired via the sleeper low voltage disconnect (LVD). It would fire the first time alright. But seldom restart.
The LVD never actually shut off the heater, but there is so much of a voltage drop in the wiring that by the time it gets to the heater, there is not enough to restart. It starts the very first time, as the voltages are still quite high shortly after the truck is shut down.
I wired mine directly to the batteries and never had an issue after that.

Mine turns on and off automatically as it should, but it can be tough finding a comfortable temp to sleep with. I usually keep it at 65 or 63 on cold nights, but sometimes 65 roasts me out, and when I drop it to 63, I wake up freezing.

Good advice .. I try to run mine full blast occasionally when I’m not in the truck for half a hour to get a good hot burn which keeps things clean

I did and the 20 year olds couldnt find a problem. It only worked twice the entire time I had it and one of the times was when they were checking it out.
