In similar situation, just graduated IITR yesterday. been calling and searching companies till I cant think straight. Oil field mainly, Im a bit of a mountain hillbilly and know I would do a lot better driving rural dirt nasty roads ,as that is what I grew up driving, than the puts my az to sleep interstate driving.
Everyone makes it sound like the oilfields are Soooooo easy to get into, however they always forget to mention the insurance companies requiring 1 year OTR.
I talked to one company in CO and they understood my situation. Told me that ATM they dont hire newbies, but have been strongly considering it and told me to fill an app out online.
guy I talked to said that he really admired my ambition. actually chatted with me for a few and said he understands how discouraging the "you need experience before we will hire you" line is, and how are the new guys supposed to get the experience if no one will hire them. seemed like a good guy, and the company looks like they do some real fun work.
I have been getting a little discouraged after being told one day that MBI in ND was wanting to hire me, then having them tell me a few days later to "go get some tanker experience and call back in the spring" GRRR... frustrating, and MBI is one of the companies that "is" willing to hire newbs.
im rambling now... to the OP, i know how frustrating this is, keep plugging away at it. try hitting up the company you temped with again. better than losing all your driving skills. -
I applied for CRE was was denied based on my background check. After hearing that I basically went ballistic and threw up my hands for a few weeks. Getting denied by the very bottom of the barrel is pretty humiliating. -
Ever since I started considering truck driving school I quit smoking the stuff. Here's the deal, the laws and regulations need to be changed, but I refuse to be another martyr for drug legalization, so I stopped. With jobs so scarce, I would be a fool to get fired over a drug test, and I would have no one else to blame but myself.
I happen to like being able to curse at the system, and I like knowing that I am not to blame for my plight, so I am clean, I am showing maturity, learning fiscal responsibility, and expanding my knowledge in other areas while I wait for a job.
