Small companies won't hire you unless they are fly-by-nighters. That's because of insurance costs. Big companies self-insure, but most will require that reckless to be over 3 yrs old. That leaves you a year, in which case your CDL will be too old for OTR.

Did you get your CDL through a school? Those a-holes should have told you this up front.

Ok, your past posts are making NO ###### SENSE.

What the hell do you mean his CDL will be "too old" for OTR???

If he should NOT find a job soon, all he will have to do is GO BACK to school for a refresher.

Dear God Almighty, where are you coming from???

You only have 2 years experience, and YOU KNOW MORE than many of us??

I think you NEED to just sit back and read the threads and responses and LEARN from us, before you dribble stupid stuff.

And by the way, NOT ALL small companies are "fly-by's"...many are BETTER than the bigger ones!!!

Maybe you should take your own advice.:biggrin_25523:

By "too old" I meant exactly what you said. He would need to take a refresher course.

I never said all small companies were fly-by- night. How did you come up with that?

Never said I know more than anyone either.

Maybe you need more coffee...or less?

There's a big part of your problem right there. Your "it's everybody's fault but mine" attitude.

Insurance companys are funded by investors. Because of the high risks involved those investors expect a high return on the money they invest. That's where the "obscene profits" go to. The company executives (and the staff) make their wages by being very careful about whom and what they insure and to what extent they insure the riskier clients. They can't analyze every aspect of each and every person/thing they insure so they do it by statistical analysis

Like it or not, trucking is a high risk business. In a good year insurance pays out a staggering amount of money for things like damaged freight, damaged equipment, damage to property, load theft, etc, etc. In a bad year they pay out more than the premiums bring in. Do that too often and the insurer goes bankrupt (happens more often than you think).

In the "expansion" years following dereg the trucking companys were hiring anything that breathed (even worse than now) and accident and damages skyrocketed. This is when outfits like Swift got the bad rep they're still carrying. Insurance took a helluva beating.

So yeah, they clamped down on stuff like hiring practices. Either that or quit insuring trucks altogether (which some did). Statistical analysis says that someone with stuff like reckless driving or impaired on their record has a much bigger chance of re-offending, often repeatedly. That could cost them big time. So they put in that 2-5 year waiting time. Nose-clean, no re-offend in that time statistically makes you a safer bet for insure.

So get off the "they owe me" kick. You screwed yourself, nobody else. Now man up and work your way through it or go to Mickey D's and cry on all the little teenyboppers about how the Man mistreats you. That'll fit right in there. :biggrin_25513:

I really hope so...I recently sent a letter to my county traffic officer (Judge) regarding a careless driving ticket I received when I dropped my motorcycle...other than that I have a seat belt ticket on my driving record....I live in Orlando FL and thats the only thing holding me back from these company sponsored schools. Ive asked the judge to reduce/expunge whatever he can do so that I can get into the industry. Crossing my fingers!!

Is trucking in control of anything? insurance dictates what they hire, govt dictates how clean the equipment will be, shippers dictate when they will load you, recivers dictate when they will unload you... someone tell me trucking as an industry still controls a part of trucking?
