I am highly considering doing this profession. But no way would i want to do it for my whole life. I would want to do it for a couple years or so to make some extra cash, but also use the money for businesses, just to supplement my income. That's why im looking into part time trucking so much. But my friend says his dad died of a heart attack trucking and was never home. There just seems to be no free time when doing trucking. I mean sure the pay is alright, but it's almost like what's the point of making all the money at it if you never have time to have a life and enjoy the money that you do make. I guess you really have to have a strong passion for being out of town. You can't be addicted to sports, the tube, or need to go the gym everyday. Ideally you shouldn't be married unless your spouse drives with you. That's not for everyone, that is just generally speaking. After reading this forum, I realized that there is no way i can drive forever and ever the rest of my life. Because for me that's not a life. It's an adventure, but then that is your life, just in the truck and loading all day. It may beat a lot of other careers. But i just don't see how i could do it full time forever. I don't think I am crazy for being afraid to get into this. That's why im cautious to jump in. That's why im looking more for part time. I have another business to run too, it would drive me insane to be gone for weeks at a time and not be able to watch my games a few times a week and be able to hit the gym each day. I can't give up my health for it. It might make me some extra cash, but then it's like if i can't do anything ever, then i don't really need the cash. It's more of a lifestyle i guess as opposed to part time work. I can't throw away my business and do this for the rest of my life. Im looking for a part time driving job or a local one. Sorry if i sound negative or like im making excuses.

Being Honest here, I cant imagine you driving at all.
With your unrealistic expectations I would bet money you will never get hired to find out.
I couldnt imagine doing what you do. Sounds pretty boring to me.

Extra cash in trucking? Never happen. Trucking is a lifestyle, not a job. You are too attached to the trappings of being home everyday (not saying there is anything wrong with that). Trucking may not be for you.

Trucking is not as easy as it sounds. You are a lot away from home and actually doing hard work. I always wanted to do this job and when I did not qualify for college financial aid, I decided to give this carreer a shot. Although I love to drive, and when Im home I miss the road, I will not dedicate my life to trucking. My plan is to finish my Bachelor's which Im more then halfway done. Trucking is a job that I love but I cant imagine dedicating my entire life to it.

Probably another 4-5 years, I dont plan my life. If I finish college and get a decent job, it might be sooner. Im pretty happy with my driving job as it gets me home every weekend and some nights during the week.

Well, I don't think you need to try trucking, it's not a 9-5 job. You pretty much talking yourself out of it before you start.

Ive been doing it for 23 years, been out up to 5+ months at a time, but I've been on tours and such that many people would kill to do. I've gotten to do some really cool things that I'd of never gotten to do otherwise. I wouldn't miss it for the world and will drive as long as I can.
