Warning!
These all-miles averages may be exagerated by high amounts of lanes with tolls being added.
Also, some guys quote true gross pay on load and others quote their cut when leased to carrier and paid percentage.
My head is spinning with all the different apple/orange scenarios.
But, if your happy, I say, "Good job on making it through a tough year!"BigBadBill Thanks this. -
Whenever I quote a figure for what my truck did it's always TTT to the truck and all miles in that is unpaid empty factored into the loaded miles which pulls it down. But of course every mile costs and counts. I don't even bother keeping figures on the gross rate above what my revenue is. It's a meaningless number. I trust 40cal and most others here quote to the truck. Tolls might be another story, not in my operation or I should say rarely, but others maybe more. You'd have to run a lot of tolls to take a 5 or 10 cent overall hit on 50,000 miles. Apples and oranges would be in expenses. An independent earning $2.50 a mile spends a lot more and keeps less than a LS-BCO earning $2.50 a mile TTT a mile does. Net profit is what counts. What is banked, actually untouched at year's end. And of course lots of guys count their driver wage as profit when truth be told they bought a job and have nothing to show at years end.

As mentioned earlier in this thread, many that have been on here for what feels like forever know the people that are shooting straight. What is funny is that many of us have meet each other. We also know that 40 is open deck, Red is reefer, Rolling is dry van and I am the scum that makes money off the hard working drivers.milskired, truckon, RedForeman and 2 others Thank this. -

I prefer to think of the bag that holds the scum, not the scum itself. LolBigBadBill and truckon Thank this. -
As far as business profit, yes I and others do forget to take out labor cost before spouting off how we have a business with 30% net profit. But, in business, having too much cash not marked for something is deemed wasteful. So the cash is either put into equipment upgrades or labor increases, or bonuses. So there is always a very low net profit number on the reports. I try to show the IRS as little profit as possible! And shareholders are no concern for my little one man show, so no fluff required for them. Anyhow, pure net profit numbers can be misleading, as there is room to move the numbers quite a bit.
Oh yeah, to these big timers who scoff at we who "have bought a job". I say, not every small business is positioning itself for the big buyout. Some are created just so the people involved will receive fair compensation and fair time off work for R&R. This is the case for many, many small business owners; they desperately needed to eliminate their "noble, blueblood" bosses whom thought it was all about them. "You as an employee should be grateful to me, your noble employer, for providing you, a mere peasant, with a job." Then they proceed to work you to death and hold the fear of being fired over your head for the sake of control and even entertainment.
I may have bought a job, but at least it's mine (and really mine, debt free). I'm also free from bosses who are wannabe kings and queens.icsheeple, RedForeman and Derailed Thank this. -
