Many companies want the truck on the yard when you are home.
It gives them the chance to do service and repairs and you are not burning their fuel driving home.

I got a company wanting me to come to work for them right now and the same issue. It is a little over 100 miles each way so i can't decide if i want to take the job or not.
It is 42 cpm though...assigned Petes and home every weekend...
It still has me thinking about it..

Wierd! Maybe it's based on the location of the prospective driver then. Perhaps they need drivers from a location one month, and not the other.

it's going to be about 160 miles for me, but i'm going to go with w/s. you only drive the round trip once a week or two. my wife is probably going to loose her job in june(end of year) she has surviver 3 years budget cuts, but she is now the lowest on the totem pole. if she does we will move closer to conover, or "back home" to ms. they got a terminal about 20 miles from where my step-dad lives.

It's the old you don't have enough experience, wait, yes you do trick. Then you'll gladly accept peasant wages. :)

Yep exactly. They sent me a little packet in e-mail explaining more about the company. It says they have authority for 48 states however they do not run a lot of New England and Florida south of the panhandle.

If they ran New England more I guess they would allow me to leave at truck stop and get home time in that way possibly. This is good because I am learning more and more about all of this.

I really don't know the criteria for getting hired with W&S, but i was told when i applied that i shouldn't have a problem getting hired. The recruiter even told me i probably will be coming to Conover, NC on Jan. 10th. I'm definitely not bitter about the situation, i just thought it would be a great company to work for from the posts i've read on here from other drivers. I only live about 100 miles from the terminal, so i know that wasn't the reason. Who knows, all i can do is continue to search for something else. Just got out of a lease and definitely not trying to go back that route.

Alright folks check this out. I also applied to WS on the 17th. I gave a follow up phone call yesterday and was also turned down. I was told "thank you for your interest in WS Trucking but I currently feel as if we have better qualified candidates at this time". I just laughed and said "thank you for your time ma'am" and hung up the phone.

Know, I am honorably separating the Corps after 8 years of service. Not that I think I rate more than others, I'm just informing you a little about myself. I obtained a CDL from a 270 hour program in December of 2008. I have just completed a refresher course with the same school on base. I have a clean MVR and criminal history.

My feelings aren't hurt. I do have a job waiting for me in Central Texas (where I'm from). I was just attempting to gain additional opportunity. And truthfully I probably would have went with them over the fella giving me a shot in Texas.

I follow the WS threads closely and it appears as if this company treats their driver's better than many, many others. From the few money figures I have seen posted they are also making a decent paycheck for a fresh outta CDL school truck driver.

That's my story. I feel as if they may not be hiring at the moment. I would rather here that than being told i'm not qualified. :dontknow:

I totally agree with everything you said!!! I think they are just not hiring right now because of load and truck shortages.. I have followed their threads closely also, and it seem the drivers are starting to complain about their loads.:biggrin_2551: I could be wrong, but i would have felt better if they would have told me things are slow then "Better Qualified Applicants"!! How someone straight outta school a better applicant than someone with 4 years experience!!!:biggrin_25512: I say that because all they seem to hire are "newbies" and there's nothing wrong with that because i once was a "newbie"!!! Don't give me no BS answer for not hiring me though!!! Maybe i'll apply in a few months and see what happens. The driver's on here make it seem so appealing to drive for them i must admit!!!:biggrin_25525:

I would surely check into it, there is something fishy here, work with the girls in Recruiting they have a load to carry and do pretty well, they drop the. All e ery now and again, I've been with them 4 months and have no plans of going anywhere else, like mentioned I'm getting all the miles I can handle and more! I wish you luck.
