I didn't go with Stevens.

I was supposed to fly out last Saturday to Dallas. I didn't. I was walking with my son who is 19 months old and realized that I could not leave him and my wife for that long. I canceled my flight that night and that was it. Monday morning while I was sleeping my wife got up with our son and he pulled out the classifieds from our local news paper and started banging on a leprechaun, yes a leprechaun. I woke up, walked into the kitchen and she showed me an ad. It stated "Hiring CDL drivers, home every night, on the job training, apply in person". That my friends is a sign. I went down to the company which I won't name because I'm new. I filled out my application and was hired right there, no experience. I'm hauling concrete now, today was my first day. I absolutely LOVE IT!! My trainer is great and we have Mack Granites, Petes and new auto Freightliners. Today was my first day and I start back Monday.

Thank you all for reading :) Be safe out there!!!

I did the same thing but 90 hour weeks got me less time with my kids than I get with Averitt getting me home every weekend. Not to mention now is not a great time for a learning curve in the concrete business. A very perishable product (only safe for 3 hours) and dealing with different slumps esp. curb jobs. Best of luck to you, I thought I was doing the right thing also. However going to Stevens would have you broke at .26 a mile and virtually no home time was smart.

We can't work over 70 hours a week as per FMCSA. Any day we work over 12 requires a log sheet. Texas laws keep us on frontage and access roads unless we are empty going back to the hose. Thank you for the encouragement :) I really do love this new experience

    yup

Stevens and CR England are at war to be the lowest paying company.

If I had to choose between those two at least Stevens gives you a nicer ride I guess. Their logic is you will have a loaded truck since you will be living in it so we will just lower the per mile for your new home.

We had a 120 yd. Pour this morning. Every truck was there for the foundation pour. Then we had a patio pour off of the 410 access ramp. It's really awesome to see and also be part of all this. I want to say we have a tailgate pour Monday, not sure though.

Pouring from one truck into another is fun also. We would always come in at 2 or 3 am for 300 yd pours. Also a word to the wise even though it isn't your fault and the company pays it but depending on what you are driving if you have 10 yds on your truck with the build up on the blades you are over 80k. Our company paid a many of fines.

That's like having to choose between getting run over by a train or a bus.

One thing I'll never understand is why experienced drivers stick around working for peanuts at these trash companies.
