I didn't know running over a curb counts as a preventable accident

    Yeah, I got bit once by a curb that was made of angle iron. Cut through the trailer tire quite easily while I thought I was easing over it. :oops:

    How did a forward facing or even driver facing camera catch the rear tires of the trailer hitting a curb? My guess is you hit it pretty #### hard enough to set the camera off and they figured it out?

    We all occasionally have to go over a curb. Sometimes there’s no other way around it. But this is a safe and planned maneuver, not a bad turn where we strike the curb hard. When you go over a curb and it’s planned, you make sure the tires square and there’s nothing in its path and you go up and over it very slowly. Making sure the sidewall does not contact the curb. When you do it right it’s basically like going over a bump or a speed bump. Not a big deal.

    Shoot. Stevens transport safety dept says there's no way to always avoid curbs. You're going to occasionally go over them. They expect it as a given. Some turns or deliveries are just going to be too tight.

    If I may share a few things with the drivers that run over curbs....that would be me included. If you have to curb a tire, make it a trailer not a tractor tire. If you can ramp the curb with 2x4s it takes alot of impact off the tire(s). Armchair trucker takes sip of Tequila.
    As for the OP, I'd be looking for another job. Management didn't handle your incident like a professional. It goes both ways. That said, I would work for @REO6205 anyday.

    Some of you have never pulled a stretch trailer and it shows.     No I agree with taking care of equipment def and it sucks that happened. I deliver to very...unique places.

    That said it's 100% true having to pay out of pocket changed a person's view on things

    It's not that we've never hit a curb. It's that when we do, we're aware of it before it happens and don't tear stuff up.

    Two weeks ago I had a student massively hit a curb.

    If you ask him, he hit the curb because the turn was built too tight and the only way he could have avoided hitting the curb was to have his tandems all the way up.

    The guy hit the curb because he was moving too fast, put a small turn in as the tractor entered the intersection, and didn't start watching his trailer until my second "watch your trailer".

    After some fruitless discussion, I drove out of the customer with the tandems all the way back and took a lap around the block. Cleared the turn without a problem.

    My guess is that the OP is a 'problem driver'. One of those guys who we know is tearing stuff up, but we can't prove it. If any manager is making a big deal over curbing a trailer, there's probably more to the story.
