I’m just thinking out loud if everything lined up just right. What would be the best lanes for regional haul with St Louis, MO as the home base? Van, Reefer, Flatbed, Tanker, Container? Chicago, Indianapolis, Oklahoma City, Kansas City, Quad Cities? I’m wanting to take the next step. I’ve done food service for 3 years and want my piece of the pie!! Would a year with Landstar be my best education? Schneider, Mercer?

Lanes are constantly in flux and changing so what is happening now may not be happening then. I don’t think you will have any problem at all though being based in St Louis. That is based on van or reefer. I don’t know much about the others.

I don't know if the Mill at Granite City is still operational (I hope they are...) That would cover your flatbed.

Effinham similar might be a better location, less taxes etc on your property. St Louis east has a pretty high threat level if you haul anything you stay awake at night (Million dollar Narcotics come to mind) then you want to be somewhere else.

I know there is a Foundry that makes train parts, if you like running to the Mexico border. They are still in business. :D

If it's axles, then that's exactly what I took out of there a number of times. I forget the actual securement protocol for them but I remember them axles.

We will always need railroad, therefore it's worth the risk to establish somewhat east and south of there, say 50 miles or so as home base.

    Awesome. TY.

It's railroad axles Im after. But i'll take coils anytime.

What I don't know and am not up to date on is if their Tower is still doing campaigning to make molten metal to use to make products in mill and ship with railroad torpedo molten cars out. There is a rail crossing that used to be shut down pretty strict against cars and trucks on a molten move.

OP, don't take this wrong but it is like trying to herd cats.

The problem is that with all the sources of work out there, through all the load boards and mega surplus work, it is impossible to forecast what is what.
