So it’s been about a month since they gave me the keys to my own truck....And #### are they running me hard!!!!! My second day was so bad i drove illegally for two hours to get back home because I ran out of time on my clock and I wasn’t ready to spend the night in my truck not to mention I was in a complete ghost town that had no truck stops , so I had every intention of quitting that day but I didn’t (and my check was ####) and they started having me do a few regional runs...but the home time so far is horrible. My days off are “six hours” off, cause i have to sleep and get my load at 2am. Do they do this to all rookies? Or is this a company thing? Do things get better from here? Or is it, as my trainer said...”that’s Truckin”?
I don’t really like trucking so far...

Who do you work for?

It’ll get better. You’ve got to give it time. In 10-12 years, you’ll barely be able to remember today.

You are in way over your head, it doesnt sound like you researched this career at all.
You will not be successful in this industry. Move on.IluvCATS, CrappieJunkie, TripleSix and 1 other person Thank this. -
Like it's been mentioned it does get better or should I say easier.
Don't be a quitter. It takes balls and patience to be successful and if you quit before you even start because of a few bad things. Your gonna have a bump ride all your life. Your going to have to build a tough skin and learn over time from experience when to take the crap and when to give crap back.
There would be more I could say about what the company shouldn't have had you do and what you should have done. But just hang in there. Build the experience. Get comfortable with your job. And then you'll feel more in charge then you are currently.
Company does need you more then you need them. Believe me. -
It’s VERY overwhelming! I wasn’t trained to do ANY paperwork or deal with ####### warehouse workers or tanums that have the old school rusty ### lever. Also my company i feel is extremely unorganized, the numerous amount of times i was supposed to pick a empty trailer and it’s full or pick a empty trailer that’s not even their so I’m stuck in the parking lot not knowing what to do so I call the dispatcher but they’re closed because it’s three in the morning . Hell,i wasn’t even trained to use the e-log! I feel like they NEED drivers so they haven’t fired me yet but i still feel like i want to quit! Their just throwing tooooooo much at me and even I’ve held up well...tomorrow’s “day off” that their making me do a run on is almost the last straw. I haven’t had a whole 24 hours at home yet!

There are better companies out there, go find one!
Tb0n3, Chinatown, driverdriver and 1 other person Thank this. -
Beginning is the worst. Just hang in there. I've seen mentors who teach bare minimum and I don't have respect for lazy people taking advantage of new drivers. Like I said don't quit. Don't be one if those people. Either take it easy nice and slow take deep breaths and just tell yourself your going to do this at your own pace. The job is a lot harder if your nervous or overworking yourself. Try and talk with your dispatch or company and explain to them that you don't know what to do you feel like you need more training. Maybe they will team you up or give you a mentor or just work with you patiently.
