It's a horrible life. OTR means long hours, being micro managed, poor health, and little home time. Regional means 34 hour restart at home from Saturday at 2am to midnight Sunday. Local means 12 hour shifts and always getting pushed to work 6 days and often hard labor combined (foodservice) to make good money.
I'm not knocking it, it got me health insurance when I needed it and I was able to build a stable bank account and have a credit score near 800 over the years. But I still say it is a horrible life. I regret it everyday even though I am thankful for the financial stability. I just wish I had found another way to do it.
I don’t really like trucking so far...

If you're not desperate, put your foot down and be selective. If you don't want to work 70 hours a week, some places will accept 55 or so or even less and so on. Make a checklist of what you want, what you need and so on. Tell them you need training and you'll only take the job if you get at least a week of training or whatever. It can be a great job. Check their safety records, talk to employees, ask them tough questions and maybe you can find out if they suck or not, ask employees, check employee reviews at glassdoor and indeed.com and search the company name in this forum. It's an important decision.

It is rough the first few months into it, but it gets better. Look into local hauling where you are home every night. Or do what I do. Be a yard jockey. I work 8 to 12 hours a day backing in trailers at a warehouse. I got to open and close doors and every once in a while slide tandems, but lot less work involved.
I have only not been home one day on that job, had to sleep at the office cause a snow storm came in dropped 12 inches and the roads didnt re-open till it was time for me to be back in. That was one night out of 2 years.Trucker61016 Thanks this. -
