oops sorry sequoia---i meant me--every time coming on 401 from east i would wait till last collector point before heading to the exit---by the time i could get over the 5 lanes i was into the exit ramp itself---but almost always people would let you in--- for the most part gta traffic is pretty forgiving--quebec city on the other hand-----its almost a full contact sport there

My only gripe about NYC and the boroughs was with the company I drove for, not the traffic or anything. Tolls were the main reason I stopped with NYC. The fools didnt have EZpass and I got tired of giving up my dough...and hoping I would get reimbursed for it.
Other reason was their measly $75 NYC pay.
As for NYC...first trip into the center of Manhattan...construction going on everywhere and finding out the directions the customer gave me were wrong. I parked it right where I was and called the guy. No way was I gonna keep going just to stop from holding up traffic.
Only nervous moments were getting off i87 and onto 2nd st. I ended up taking the lower level of the Major Deegan and had to be escorted to the upper level and the rest was nerveracking just because I was so freaked out at all the 'what ifs'. I was thinking too much and that kept me wound up, but after I got on 2nd street, I was cool and calm and was glad(never thought Id say that) to be in NYC for my first time...in a semi truck too boot!
I would run NYC if I had EZPass and was properly compensated for my time(not a measly 75 bucks either!) -
Thats jersey, free to come in but ya gotta pay to leave! -
I'm at the point that I don't even like going east of the Mississippi anymore ....just too much traffic, tailgaiting, getting cut off, training fleets, no where to park lat 4 am... blah blah blah.
Id much rather deal with empty roads and 2,000 miles of snow a week in the winter than that BS and im personally and financially happy. -
I too was one of those dry van crybabies who at one time was scared out of my mind if the words, Newark, NYC, Brooklyn, Long Island or similar came into play.
Truth is its just another big city with streets and road signs like everywhere else.
Get good directions, PLAN AHEAD, know where you're going and you'll be fine.
Oh, and pull that GPS outta your arse and DRIVE!!! -
oh and BTW--sorry your from jersey -
I used to go to NYC every day. Got on the train in Beacon,NY and got off at Grand Central Station and walked to the office at 605 3rd ave. No traffic problems for me, but still hated it, so took a job in Jeddah, Saudia Arabia with the Saudi Airline. Thats a whole nuther story. Yeah, traffic sucks there too.

I cut my driving teeth in the northeast. today the tolls are too high, the traffic too heavy and the truck stops almost non-existant... I'll pass.
My son's bread and butter today is the NE... he called me yesterday from Boston and was headed to CT for his backhaul. I'm glad he likes it out there but I was running there when he was in diapers...I should have been home teaching him NOT to go there!
I had a customer in the Bronx on Jerome Ave. when I was hauling vintage cars back in the late 80's/early 90's... can't say I miss it. -
Btw- i have no prob being from jersey, its the drivers from east cowpie, ks that dont like it. Im used to our own brand of crazyness
