I used to run 48 spread axle flatbed all through the 5 burroughs and up and down the eastcoast. My favorite is conneticut though, real peaceful. I agree you gotta go where the money calls at least at some point in your life. It seems strange that drivers with 10,20,30 + yrs experience have never been up there and call themselves seasoned?? I can truly understand if you've done it in your career and just have grown tired but to have never gone?? wow!! Also when it's cinco de mayo wow the chicks up there are so lovely. Of course I'm from the chi so big traffic never bothered me anyway....

OK y'all have seen me reply to these NYC Posts time and time again--and I am not gonna repeat the trailer length politics--except to say the city has been passing laws since the early 50's trying to restrict trucks in certain area's for a multitude of political(read money)reasons--they never stand up--but as usual when they go on their revenue sourcing blitzes most companies just pay the tickets instead of fighting them--any--IMHO--PLEASE--PLEASE--keep refusing loads there--keep spreading the RUMORS--of how impossible it is to get around--PLEASE--PLEASE keep telling all the BS war stories at the truckstop counters--It is what keeps the inbound rates up where they are--it IS what makes running in there so lucrative--It is what keeps the smaller meat/produce etc.--distributors in that area willing to pay high rates--get you unloaded in short order--pay their bills on time--keep lumpers in check--shall I go on?
In short--I hate NYC--and I especially hate all the MONEY I have made there over the years............
Of course after posting this--I can't wait to read about the $500 lumper--the $1000 trailer restriction ticket--the daylight gunpoint robbery--please continue--Thanks!

one of my favorite grossly over exagerated trucker stories is when they wrap a cable around a telephone pole, then attach the other end to your back doors, which rips said doors off ya know, then they rob your trailer while your rolling down the street....all this goes on in broad daylight, oh ok.....

I run NYC quite a bit and always have. Just get in before the sun comes up and deal with the slow traffic on the way out. Hell, Atlanta is worse than NYC! (traffic wise).
Our company just raised the pay rates for any driver running the NE and even more for any of the NYC Burroughs (.55cpm plus $50.00) because most of our drivers are from the South and when they hear the word NYC...they panic, lol.
I've told my dispatchers before the raise that I had no problem running NYC and now I wish they would give me nothing but NYC. Hell, I'd be glad to run only 1500-2000 miles per week, be home almost every night (I live in MD/DC burbs) and bring home $1200.00 plus paychecks every week.

I can't count the number of gossip-counter hangarounds who have told the same story about a cop telling them to run someone's car over "because it's illegally parked" and even stop traffic so they can do it. Umm....what about the damage to your own equipment that might make it impossible to move? Huh?

I have picked up and delivered on Long Island. I didn't mind it. One thing about New York traffic, it's almost always moving. Even if it's 20mph....it is moving. Which is better than Chicago sometimes. Which, by the way, I LOVE going to Chicago. Just something about how the city feels. Can't explain it. Oh, and I love New Jersey, too.

53 ft's run in DC all the time, without permits. Maybe once in a blue moon you might get a wanna be DOT, Metro Police who will ticket you but I've never heard of any and I've lived here all of my life.
