I think you would not have the problems getting a job intrastate that many think you would. I have seen in state drivers with no arms. I have seen in state drivers missing an eye. Missing a hand etc.
It is more common than many think.
Most of these drove before missing the limb, but this is not always the case.
OTR is a different animal though. Many more hoops to jump thru to get where you want to be.
I highly doubt that they will give you the waver for interstate. But I think you would get one for intrastate.
Good luck. I hope you do well.

Also remember drivers are responsible for safety of our truck, others and ourselves. Seconds matter when a fire breaks out. How fast can you get to and use the extinguisher? Or chain your tires? Or unhook your tractor from a burning trailer?

Also God forbid you hit a car, but I would want a truck driver who could pull me from a wreck if I had to be.

Now if you want to drive think outside the box! How about dump truck? Or contact salvation army and such and see about driving there donation trucks. Get a car or van and drive for couriers.

Point is drive anything doing anything. It'll be easier to sell yourself as a driver if your driving.

ok thanks for this info, so my question is this, why would the trailer be modified? i can crank the landing gear and i wouldn't do any loads i had to touch, i can plug the lines in so just wondering what mods i needed cause i can deal with the whole truck buying thing, i'd get a SBA loan which i can get i'm sure because i have good credit and i'l have my mom co-sign and she has good credit, but trailers are exspensive, just my thought but and yes to the other guy i don't know a whole lot so sayin that i thought as a independent i'd bid on a load cause thats how ind. get jobs right? and they provide the trailers. would i have to have my own trailer and if i did would i back it into the lot and the people would load it or they would have the trailer which as i type this it sounds stupid cause why would a non truckin company have trailers sitting around right lol.

so here is my bis question, should i get a big sleeper in prep for the future or get a day cab and sell it when i turn 21?

Well my dad drives a dump truck and all he does is drive. Sometimes he'll hook to a trailer and pull the equipment to the job site, but even then thats not much work. And most of the Dump truck companies around here don't want you to get out of the truck "because you might get hurt" so all they do is drive.

As far as pay goes around here dump truck drivers make $13-18/hr which isn't much but you can survive.

The SBA does not make loans in the way you are thinking. :biggrin_25513: They only guarantee loans, and a bank which faces a default on your loan will be penalized by the SBA. Therefore, you need to convince a bank to make the loan to you, first.

I opened up my bbq restaurant with a Small Business Administration guaranteed loan, but the process was neither quick nor easy. Be prepared to construct a business plan, financial schedules, and have SUBSTANTIAL money in your own bank account (figure 35% of the loan amount minimum). An SBA loan is not a 100% loan, you will need to provide anywhere from 10 to 30% down. Then you can plan on the loan costs themselves, which will run over $1000.00. The very fact that you need your mother to co-sign for a loan is a bad indicator to a bank. A good consumer credit score plays a very small role in obtaining a business loan; it doesn't hurt, but it doesn't replace years of experience in the business for which you need the loan.

I would sooner bet on Mahmoud Ahmadinejad french kissing Benjamin Netanyahu, or Joe Biden joining the Tea Party Movement, then you getting a SBA loan. I am not trying to be cruel, just trying to pass on the knowledge that I have.
