I know you mean well, and do a lot of good, but, do you really think "Goodwill" is the best place to look for qualified truck drivers? I mean,,,good heavens, man. Goodwill is one step up from an institution, do a lot of good, but I'm sorry, if that's a place companies are looking for truck drivers, this world is a lot worse than I thought.

Goodwill pays for cdl school. Have to apply right away because funding runs out each year by the end of the fiscal year. Goodwill's goal is to help the unemployed train for jobs; not just truck drivers, but a whole array of job training.

Truck Driving School | Drive For CRST
    driveforcrst.com/truck-driving-school
Classes are held weekly and usually last just three weeks. Approval is based on your driving, work, and criminal history, not your credit history. With our Free Class A CDL program, CRST covers the CDL fees. Plus we offer two free meals per day during training and $40 per week stipend during school.

Some of the LTL companies* have Dock positions that pay decent, just need to be able to run forklift and handle freight. If they need drivers some will train their dock people in what's called a dock-to-driver career path. Most offer benefits.

Also, some dry bulk companies don't pay very well, but they do offer training. Hang out near a concrete plant and watch who delivers dry cement. Drive around, especially industrial areas, and notice who is using trucks locally.

If you have kids, working at a local company means being home every day.

If you take an OTR job with one of the big companies, expect to make 600/week your first year and rarely be home for short periods.

*Estes, Old Dominion, Fedex Freight, UPS Freight, SAIA, Holland, ABF, YRC... if you see a truck pulling two short trailers, look into that company to see if there are dock openings near you.

I once met a Guy, who was an Alcoholic, he lived on the streets, till Winter. Then He would sober up, live at and Drive for The Salvation Army, till spring. Truckings full of Drivers, who have made mistakes. Ex- Convicts, prior Driving offenses. There’s always a chance to change your life. Good Luck. Thanks @Chinatown , for your service, helping others.
