I know I'm going to get the hate, but why don't they go to the teamsters cdl school, or a lot of city colleges have truck driving classes. YRC has a school. Seems it would save folks a lot of grief. Here in Vegas, we have classes all the time.
I don't know why people go to mega for cdl school.

Going to community College means cash on the barrel head. Most folks don't have $5,000 in cash plus living expenses for 6 weeks.
Heck, for some of these guys buying new socks is a luxury.Opendeckin, djdeadpixel, Sirscrapntruckalot and 12 others Thank this. -
Easy answer, no money up front. Why should you not go to a mega carrier CDL school? I didn't for one primary reason-I didn't want the automatic restriction. If not for that, I could have got my CDL through Schneider, immediately left, and still owe less than I paid for a private school.

Pell loans, WIA grant for low-income students. Takes two weeks to get loans from govt. Do not have to pay back for a year of employment. AS low as 50 dollars per month. Teamsters cdl school is free. And please do not get restrictions on your license, learn to drive manual at least ten speeds then the rest comes easy to 13 and 18 speeds. Your golden. They can't find those drivers on the construction side. Get in on the prevailing wage and your talking real money and home every day.

One reason is that some people may not live near a truck driving school or a community college with such a program.

I didn't qualify for those. You didn't answer my question though. What are your reasons for not going to a mega carrier cdl school?mjd4277 and gentleroger Thank this.

Also, unless those grants pay for living expenses, and I don't think they do, many can't afford to go 4-6 weeks without a paycheck even if the school is paid for.rabbiporkchop, ducnut and mjd4277 Thank this.

OK. all I'm saying is there are other options. Hey if it worked for you great. And yes, they have money included for living expenses.

I said I didn't go to a mega school because I didn't want the automatic restriction. I just don't think they're universally bad and may be the best option for some people. Even the auto restriction is becoming less important year by year, depending on what your goals are. I know there are some sectors of trucking that will keep manual as long as they can, but even the heavy rotator wrecker I rode in recently was an auto. I think it's the first I've seen that wasn't manual.

If I really have to answer that question for you, I'm not going to bother. Let me guess you like your training money for the next victim. Roll on super roll on,
