That's probably why it wasn't eligible for Pell Grants. Like I mentioned earlier, a community college near me offers two different CDL programs. I verified and one is 4 weeks long, the other is 15 weeks long. The longer program is eligible for Pell Grants, the shorter one isn't.Henley Thanks this.

I'm a 68-year-old man with dentures, I don't think it would end well for either one of us. And the truck stops are full of us. Go get them tiger.Last edited: Mar 17, 2023

xpo pays you to go to school but ordinary truck school charge upwards 6k or so and that was back in 2013 don't know the prices today.
I also worked for xpo. and they don't have a driver shortage it's a terminal shortage they don't run out of freight but they still mass hire/fire workers and its not about having the best workers they pick choose they feel like. they rough up people to get a feel what they can get away with from the worker. if they want a worker who will break rules for more profits he might get promoted is one example. -
Now im glad i didnt take the dock worker position they offered me earlier this week. I talked to the manager about CDL training, they pay hourly to do it and it sounds like they wouldve pushed me through it. It was listed as part time, but i cant see taking a 3 hour per day position for a few months to get there. Everyone keeps saying "say 'no' to cheap freight," lets expand it to the general population as "say 'no' to crappy jobs." I wouldve been all over it if it was something reasonable like 5 or 6 hours a day, i couldve lived with that until i got in a truck mking decent money.

It's a kind of situation where a potential driver really does not have a lot of options is going to choose the cheapest driver training course. I mean seriously who has a spare $7000 sitting in the bank? Sure if they have a good credit limit on their Mastercard, Amex that is an option however again they would be obligated to pay that back, taking out a personal loan is another option same problem though making the repayments, so naturally most would choose the driver trainer option with a large mega. Its really a win win for the megas they know this and just hang a carrot out to lure folks in by making promises of plenty of home time, sign on bonus, guaranteed pay per week etc etc.

Hey MSWS, would you mind disclosing what community college you're referring to? I'd like to find out more about that 15 week program.

Jones County Junior College
Ellisville, MS
I should clarify my earlier post to say that I verified they still have two different programs, one that's 4-weeks and the other is 15-weeks. The link above will take you to their page for both. I haven't spoken with them recently to verify that the 15-week course is still eligible for traditional financial-aid, but it was last year.Henley Thanks this.
