How would you log mechanical labor, time washing, polishing, waxing or other maintenance on duty and still be able to roll ?

If you're doing the work in your driveway, who's to say if you spent an hour Saturday morning wrenching on your truck or 6 hours? ;) You could also keep up on the little stuff through out the week. Waiting to get loaded/unloaded? Takes 5 minutes to change a headlight. While doing your pre/post trip inspection, why not grab the grease gun and grease a few things as you go?

Aren't you allowed to work past 70 as long as you aren't driving and log it as "on duty not driving?" As long as you have enough time to do a reset you should be good to go. Granted I have 0 experience with OTR and have only been around local, Mon-Fri trucking that would mean if you worked a half day on the truck Saturday, you could reset Sunday and have a fresh 70 for Monday morning right?

You've gotta wear alot of different hats as a business owner. Mechanic, accountant, salesman.... etc.

Look at the bright side, you get to drive around when you're not actually working!

being able to do as much maintnance as possible on your own seems to be the only way. that means also having the tools, space and knowlwdge to do it. I don't and that isn't what they teach you in driving school. maybe I'll learn through habit and things will get easier as time goes on.
