I used to drive for a husband and wife owner operator. He was a mechanic at Central/Pam and did most of his own work. Whatever needed more time than he had, he used some local shop he knew and trusted. I forget their name but they used to lease space near the Petro on Gateway East next to the Utility trailer shop.

@Josh_B, how about buying a brand new truck ? Or leasing the truck from a dealer so that way all repairs are on them.

I don't believe in you need to do all the repairs yourself to be a successful owner operator. Sure it helps, but for me, when its time for the oil change and whatever else needs fixed, I have my mechanic do it. I still make good money and when I'm home I don't want to be wrenching on the truck. I rather forget about it for a few days and spend my time doing something else.
Basicly what I'm saying is there's more than one way to skin a cat. -
