I don't know about any other state, but Cali requires an Instructors license....A CDL doesn't qualify one to teach another how to drive.....In Cali.......

I believe Illinois just passed the same law, you must be trained by a certified instructor, someone with just a cdl does not qualify.:biggrin_2556:

Do you have your CDL-A? I have mine and need (recent experience) as well. As we know this is required by employer. There seems to be many peps with this issue. And I really would rather not go to a CDL mill school.:biggrin_2558:

I have a CDL B (bus driver) but I'm prepared now to get a CDL A permit. My problem is that I don't want to spend weeks in school learning the "book learning" part. I can do that on my own. I didn't go to school to get my CDL B, I studied on my own. I'm just stirring up the coals here a little bit before I plop down hard earned money. I feel my time would be better spent getting familiar with equipment, "up close and personal", and then get some quality driving instruction from a veteran. Like I said, I'm just stirring up some schtuff, but I feel I owe it to my bank account to do it.

call some CDL schools in your area and ask if they do hourly training instead of taking the class

i know C1 will do 1 on 1 training with you for $60 an hour...which can save you time and money

If you were a little younger....you could join the Teamsters and go to their CDL school....You can try though....one of my uncles joined at 49 and retired last year with 16 years in...
That's one constructive use of the dues money....

    walleye and JustSonny Thank this.
