You may very well be correct. My first year...accident free, not a scratch on anything. My 2nd year, I was banging into other trailers at the docks, narrowly missing telephone poles, running over curbs with a disturbing frequency, etc. Luckily, no moving incidents. I think I was just overconfident, "I have a year behind the wheel, I can handle anything."
I learned my lessons, and the past 18 years or so have been "scratch free". I pay attention to DRIVING, take each corner like it was my first, check my mirrors ALL THE TIME, etc. Though I have Sirius, most of the time I don't even have that on-even the radio (not the CB, that is always on, maybe squelched so I can at least here the trucks near me-saved my butt more than a few times!) can be distracting.
But, anyway, yeah, I can see what you are saying about the "2nd year" syndrome.
And I did not mean to impugn ALL new drivers in my original post.
I don't want to start an argument here, but... more screening of new drivers

Too much EMPHASIS put on todays ELECTRONIC GUIDANCE DEVICES.
The art of planning your trip has vanished , GPS tells them EXIT NOW and they crank it to the RIGHT, voice on the HANDS FREE CELL PHONE tells them turn at the RED building , they TURN , GOOGLE MAP is incorrect but they do not know how to verify the directions .Last edited: May 8, 2011

You mean all trucks aren't equipped with the Navitron Autodrive System?

That will really suck if they aren't. I haven't really been paying close attention in class since I was counting on this. I thought all of the complaining about difficult situations on the forum was just cover so the general public wouldn't find out about NAS. -
The thing is, most GPS devices tell you 2 miles before your turn, a mile before and show that the turn is coming up, people just don't pay attentionplus they don't look ahead, they look to the end of their hood, that's it.
While we're on this subject, who is teaching drivers to sit in the center lane at 55, again with a cell phone stuck in their ear, and when you pass them on hte right, they give YOU the dirty look.

If LEXUS can develop an auto-park feature, surely someone will come up with and auto-dock one!

You just cant fix stupid. I am for having the trainers have more training to be good trainers and follow the laws just like your bosses have to. Just last week there was a 6 tractor trailer accident on the NJ Turnpike. They were not all trainees.

as in the words of Ron White, "You cant fix stupid. Stupid is forever"
