Hello everyone. I have recently went in for my pre trip/drive test at the dmv on 2/10. For my pre trip, I got the entire truck and trailer. I did great. I missed one thing that I could think of, but other then that I nailed it. For the in cab inspection I didnt miss anything at all. Now for the air brakes test...... turned the truck on, governor cut out test. Turned the truck off then next, was applied leakage test. So far so good .... but then the low air warning test..... I faned the air down, warning goes off at 59 psi, it can't be below 55 psi when it shows a warning so it's a good test, right? WRONG. The only thing is I kept going without her stopping me and failing me. So then spring pop out, tug tests and service brake test. I was so stoked I didn't miss anything and was so ready for the road test. But, the lady said since I didn't start the truck when I did my low air warning test, I FAILED..... I was soooooo upset. I live in a town full of truckers and truck stops and with the handful of truckers I've talked to, I haven't had anyone tell me it makes any #### sense at all.
What are your thoughts on this? Do you think I got screwed over on my first attempt? I have another appointment this Friday, 2/18 and I'm on the verge of not knowing what to do. Do i start the truck while doing the low air warning test? Do I leave it off like I was taught to do? Please let me have all your opinions!! I'd really appreciate it

I failed my air brake test, do you think I did?

Go to another DMV center.
Mototom, Rideandrepair, ghostcookie and 4 others Thank this. -
Fan brakes when truck is off key on until sound comes on, and keep fanning until it pops. That’s the test. Then you start the truck, build air and you do a tug test of the trailer brakes, then tractor brakes.
Not sure where you failed.
Truck can’t be on when your checking for leaks and brake testing. Unless your tug testing.Last edited: Feb 12, 2022

Nearest dmv that does CDL drive tests is about 70 miles away or I'd be over there immediately.Rideandrepair, Boondock and Chinatown Thank this.

Don’t worry about it you will pass it the next time and when something doesn’t go right, just be a goldfish.
Rideandrepair, spindrift, tscottme and 1 other person Thank this. -
I failed my 2nd attempt to get my A license because I forget to shut the truck off during the leak down test. Too bad I didn't have your tester that day!
Rideandrepair, Boondock and Don379 Thank this. -
Here’s a question, how many drivers do this test every day during their pre-trip?
Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
I never do a pre trip. I always do a post trip. At the end of the day I pull in front of barn and pop hood and check everything. Big thing to check in the morning is tires. But to answer your question, I haven’t done that air brake test since the exam and that was years agoRideandrepair, Zoltan1a and goga Thank this.

Best pre trip inspection go to the end at around 49 mins. for brake check.
Rideandrepair, tscottme, MAMservices and 1 other person Thank this. -
Yeah, so many people don’t know the value of a post trip. Just knowing if you have have a tire or light out and the chance to fix it in your 10 off or schedule a service can make the difference of making a delivery.Rideandrepair, jethro712, tscottme and 3 others Thank this.
