Why is it I feel drivers are not understanding the regulations and I am fighting a battle of cancer in my eyes and it's not going away, and i feel lately there is no dent in it :(. I have to terminate drivers who don't want to improve on their logs (yes i just ask to IMPROVE). I got a driver today who did not believe me when I was explaing how the 11 & 14 hour rule was and my boss explained it and 2 other drivers and he still thinks we treated him like crap and all I was doing is trying to help him understand the regulations and I was into it to, meaning I wanted him to say oh ok, now I believe you and now I understand. NOpe he left still frustrated and not believing so this means he will be back in a month to be terminated :(. Why am I sad, because this reflects me as a manager every driver I lose I feel we didn't do our job, however knowing there is some driver who refuse to run legal.

ON the other hand we saved a drivers job today and i worked with them and they understood and listened to the regulations and me trying to help them. They saw the other driver reactions and didn't think highly of him either.

Grrrr just venting, how will you drivers ever learn the legal way and the proper way to log. I mean if you are going to log illegal at least dont argue with the one's trying to help you understand the correct way to do it. We are just trying to help you run legal and stay out of prison :)

It just common sence. As a driver you should know that
Safety, and Managment is always right (even if they are wrong).
You get pulled over by Police, you don't argue and tell them
what an idiot they are for pulling you over- you tell them your
sorry and won't do it again. I save the arguments for court, and
the last 5 out of 6 times I have been pulled over I recieved warnings.
Don't let it stress you Logs, you can't fix stupid, just make a new
job opening for someone who is smarter.

There are some drivers out there who can drive the hell out of a truck. Unfortunately, some of those drivers are dumber than a post when it comes to paperwork. The guy that trained me was like that--in fact, I think he may have been illiterate. He could drive, but couldn't keep a legal log to save his life. I remember the Tennessee DOT tearing him a new one over his log book, then looking at mine which was up to date. The officer said something to the effect of, "...and this guy is training you?"

    Ya can't save 'em all.

Oh Logs... I hear you! But you know, you have to realize that the driver made a choice. He knows what the expectations are, and he has chosen not to meet them. That does not reflect who you are!
Take heart, I am sure that there are many drivers who are legal out there because of you. Sometimes we have to look at the other side of the coin to realize that all is not lost!
Good luck, and keep your chin up!

Get a grip !!!.... Breathe,,,,Breathe..... it will be ok. Stop hyperventilating for cryin' out loud !! Breathe into a brown bag.......there you go.... calm. just take it easy. do you drink coffee? sugar and cream or black, no sugar, or black w/sugar? Just sit down young lady and take a load off. no pun intended. You're doin' a fine job. Fine, fine, fine. We are all grateful for your persistence in educating a bunch of sorry, illiterate , dumbfounded , clueless specimens of the human kind. What more can you do? Have you ever conjured up the idea of producing a logbook....books on tape kinda thing where the numbskulls like myself can listen to it while we're driving or when we're home. I don't need such a thing because I understand what I'm doing but the new drivers might benefit from it. Let me know when you get this process started , and I'll stop by and sign the contract with the production company....I mean I'll only take my share of course... and we'll be on our way to... paradise !!!! So remember, it's my idea that I'm giving to you at no charge with the forecast looking very bright indeed. I'll have to see what kind of new sunglasses they're puttin' out these days. Because the light from the reflection off the gold coins we get will be blinding !!!! keep in touch.. and give 'em my name. !!

A few years back, I happened to meet up with a guy who drove 'old school ' and refused to keep a logbook, he was being trained to log by a company driver that knew it forward and backward, but he would still refuse to keep a logbook. If he was caught driving, he'd take his 8 then 10 now down and pay the fine.

Logs, you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink, and you can't teach everyone, some just refuse to learn. You are doing a good service to the truckers (and others)that read this forum and I'm sure you are doing the same at work. Don't let the occasional throwback ruin how you feel about yourself, you are doing your job, and that guy that rejected your advice and counsel was not doing his, let it go and help the ones that will accept it.

Get out of my head, that is my goal in life and I can't seem to get the ump to get started :). I want my own so I call it "hillbilly" log book :). CD (tapes are done with, right?) would be an added benifiet. I believe I can make a great training book for logs, but who would buy it?

I would donate some to TruckersReport ( I mean to Cybergal)..LOL if the sponsored my book (after it's published of course :).

To many people are so vague and so technical with their words that it doesn't make sense to everyone. NOt that drivers are stupid but gosh you have how many truckers in this world and they think in 2 pages they can explain how to split break etc. So thanks for suporting my idea and sure If I EVER get it done I will be glad to pay a bill for you (if I make it big) Remember I have 3 kids (well ones almost done, but you know I am a mom and she will never be done)

Thanks everyone! To the comment "keep in mind the one's who did listen" is true and I used to focus on that, it's just lately everyone seems to be going crazy with log violaitons/running illegal.

Now for the driver yesterday (which I kept this in mind talking to him and trying to be nice the whole time not losing my cool)
He came in # 4:30 today (30 minutes before I need to leave to get my child) and said I want to say I am sorry I was upset about my load etc.

Well in looking at his logs I noticed wow he is doing his recap incorrectly. He would do a 34 hour restart (right) and say his total hours 3 days ago was 22. Well he would take 22 + the hours he worked today and subtract that from 70. Well he was losing money/miles etc. After a 34 hour he would have a new 70 hours, but he was taking that 22+8 (todays hours) and subtracting that from 70. No WONDER he is complaining and biatchy.

He said he's been doing it that way for ever and I said you are losing money and that's the whole problem there.

Why my previous 2 auditors that talked to him and the one yesterday did not notice this I must say I am ashamed it wasn't discussed before :(.

So to me again I am frustrated with him going this long and no one noticed he was doing it incorrectly. Even Organ troopers :biggrin_2554:
He was not violating his 70 hour because he was shorting himself hours so he didn't go into violation. It just takes that extra step to look and see how are they doing that re-cap.

GRRRR again I am rambling but I do this to hopefully teach someone something. Never assume just because you have been doing it that way for 10 years and no one has said anything that you have been doing it correctly.

Read my material I offer and make sure you are doing it that way :)
Not bragging but I do know what I am talking about. I can be wrong sometimes but not on the 11,14 or 70 or logging legal.

Thanks everyone for your support and I will try not to complain again :).
But if your log auditors treat you like crap talk to me please :).
