I just graduated in training school and I had some troubles doing a log.It can be confusing at time trying to stay under the 11 and 14 rule but I'm sure once I get a job and do it enough times I'd be good at it.I be the one driver that would stay legal since I sure don't want to be in trouble especially with the DOT.
I feel like giving up on drivers :(

The 14 is easy to stay in. Just put a small mark on the top of the log 14 hours after your log on time.
If you dont use your split (which most dont) then you cannot work past that time.
For the 11 it is harder to mark in advance. I will just look 12 hours after my log on time for a refrence. If I took any breaks or sleeper time at a shipper/ reciever then I will normally be close to that time anyway. It is just a quick reminder that I can remember easy to make sure I dont go over.
I will normally never run a second shift in a 24 hour peorid, unless I am really behind due to a shipper/reciever hold up. It is technically possable to run 14 hours a day, you just have to have that 10 hours in there before you can run the last 3. I dont recomend doing this though unless you like pushing the envelope in the beginning. Stick with no more than 11 hours driving for now, and keep it all within 14 hours of your going on duty time. -

Also what he means by on time is once you complete a 10 hour consecutive break (or longer) once you enter lines 3 or 4 (on-duty not driving or driving) your 14 hour clock has started, count over 14 hours from the time you ENTERED lines 3 or 4 and make that mark, that's when the 14 hour is up.
Regardless whichever comes first your 11 or 14 hour you must stop driving.
Also there is no LEGAL reason what so ever to drive passed your 14 or 70 hour limit. Also many drivers believe the DOT allows you to drive 2 hours extra on your 11 to find a "safe place to park" that is not true unless you had some unforseen issue happen during your trip that could of been done without that unforseen issue. Usually Accidents is the best one. Not going into details unless asked. -
That link wont open with vista--oh well. I just wanted to check it out--although i never usually will drive over 10 hours unless i gotta.

Understand once your day starts (being lines 3 or 4 which is on-duty not driving or driving) you only have 11 hours to drive, if you don't get that 11 done within your 14 hour period you are SOL or in a nice way you are done regardless at the end of the 14 hour period.
I stress that because I had a driver the other day that just refused to understand if my line 3 & 4 does not total more than 14 hours in that day I can not be in violation. Also his line 3 only totaled 7 hours but he didn't see the point he didn't take a full 10 hour break or the fact he drove passed his 14 hourHe did come back to appoligize and I "think" he understands now.
SO if I e-mail that powerpoint to my son's computer (equipped with Vista) and post it for vista users would that work or do I need to totally re-do it? -
Nah i think there is a program to d/l to open it with==i just didnt look for one but i will do that later. I had to do the same with some .doc file programs. When i find it--i will post the program thats needed for it.
