The most common answer i get is that "We want you to have experience". Well, where am i suppose to get experience if no one will hire me?

Well I can tell you right now, no OTR company is going to hire you until you at least hit the minimum ago of 21. I tried to get on local hauling asphalt but can't because you have to be 25 with 2 year's OTR. Trucking is at the all time high of hell in a hand basket. If you still have a while before you hit 21 then you may have screwed the pooch by going to school to early because companie's only want you right out, not 3, 4, 5 month's and so on down the road. It's hard to get hired on any where right now, even for us experianced drivers. If you still have a while before hitting 21 then companies may tell you to go back to school and then come back to talk with them as soon as you get done with training all over again. Only reason I say this is because I've seen it happen.

Like Bulldog said, WELCOME TO HELL, lol... Anyways, your best bet is going to be to drive/work for an owner operator for lil money. Thats the bottom line till you get experience. Unless you know people, friends etc. Goodluck Danny.

You are Exactly right! It happened to me I got my CDL in March 2008 when I was 18. Just in time for Diesel to SOAR past $4.50/gal and the economy and the stock market to Crash and just about every construction project in North and South Carolina was either canceled or put on hold until further notice. So needless to say every company that could have and was going to hire me couldn't anymore and in fact TONS of drivers around here got laid off. And now that I am about to turn 21 in September 2010 I now have to pay to got threw the FULL school Not a refresher course! all over again just so I can got OTR in September. So take it from me now that you've paid for the school and the CDL do everything you can to get a job so you don't have to pay to go threw all that all over again! Don't give up, try every company that has any type of vehicle with a DOT number on the side of it!

and worst case scenario your 20 you can only possibly have 365 days till you turn 21 I had 3 Years to wait to start my "new" career lol

I wish you better luck then I have had :biggrin_25519:

Congratz Danny, I too just completed my class A and overheard the schools recruiter on the phone with a prospective student. She mentioned that you need to be 21 to cross state lines with a semi; but that is in Pa. not sure about Ma. you might want to look into that. With about a month to go though I hope you have better luck then I have had.

Best wishes and always be safe.

That's every state everywhere. Don't they teach the basic laws in school?
