I refuse to tarp shingles, hauled them once before as a back haul for some construction equipment and I thought all those frailey shilling drivers were nuts for tarping shingles...

Allow me to politely correct you, other drivers, and.....Shippers and brokers....
There are no such things as "Back Hauls".....
Say you load in LA to go to Denver.....And then grab a load from Denver back to LA...Is that a "Back Haul"...NO!!!!!! Hell NO!!!!!!!

Because that load if a local driver took it would not be a "Back Haul" now would it?!!!!!!

That term was invented by shippers an brokers to get you to accept lower rates for a load to get back to momma....Bull sheyat!!!!!!
Every load is a "Front Haul" and should be paid accordingly.....Or they should sit on the ground.....Rust or rot, for all I care.....

    magnum2 and kubotaorange76 Thank this.

I've tarped many a load of shingles back when GAF packaged them in paper wrappers. Haven't hauled any since they switched to all plastic.

Had a argument with a guy at a manufacturing facility.
He insisted that my driver tarp a 50 000lbs transformer.
I explained to him that it was going to sit outside for the next 50 years.
He then said it was to protect it from the pressure of the wind while driving...??
I told him that we did not carry tarps on the lowboy/lowbed trailers.
I also explained that the tarp would be ripped to pieces by all the sharp edges on the brackets.
In the end we just drove of with threats of being liable for wind damages.

only shingles i have tarped are certainteed paper wrapped with plastic bag over pallet...they want to to tarp it to keep bag from being destroyed....All i did was unfold 1 lumber tarp one time on top of front of load....kept bags from blowing off. Other than some still up in oxford....they have finally switched to plastic wrapped.....

Funny when you see some companies still having to tarp those loads cause their "qualcolm" says so

Home Despot loads and Lowes loads have to be tarped because it's for "Appearances"...Customers of both stores would think something is wrong with the product if the plastic was dirty or God forbid...Torn.....:biggrin_25523:

Anyone ever have to tarp concertina wire yet?
