hey guys,
its me again. sorry for all the threads just trying to gather all the info i can on my new career. today i gave my employer my 2 weeks notice and they let me go on the spot for it which i thought was messed up. i worked there for a year and a half and had a stellar work performance. their reasoning behind this was they were slow and didnt really need to keep me on. but im not dumb they knew far in advance about my plans and were probably mad due to the fact that i was going through with it. so with that said i will now ask my question. trans am is who i chose to go with and will be leaving april 2nd to head to orieantation has tried for 2 weeks to contact this employer whom i am speaking about for job verification. each time trans am was not able to acquire the information they were seeking. the recruiter later contacted me to tell me she tried and tried to get my information from this employer but they would not give her anything and repeatedly yelled at her on the phone. i had to use my w-2 form for verification. so what i am asking is can this employer legally give me a bad reference in the future even though i gave them my 2 weeks notice and it is written on paper after they let me go on the spot. thanks for any responses. just worried that this could affect my new carrer thanks.
i gave my current employer my 2 weeks notice today and they let me go

so yes, you see, when an employer "knows" you're "looking around" they take the hint you want to leave, and they basically fire you.........they feel that since you don't want to stay with them, its easier to get rid of you, even if you never get hired by anyone that you applied to..........!!!
any company that does this, gets on my "crap list" ASAP, and i'll never recommend them to anybody.
oh and by the way, my former employer Air-Ride...?? they lost most if not all of the DHL/ABX Air dedicated account..............this i found first hand a few weeks ago.............
guess i "won" afterall................
as for the "bad reference" from your former employer, they can try, so make sure you get a copy of your DAC report in about 1 to 2 months from now, and make us know then what they say. -
hey pro1driver thanks for helping all of us new guys out. i see you on a lot of threads here posting valuable information. and for that i thank you a lot. just to add the job who let me go was not a driving job. trans-am will be my first driving job. this company was a light gauge steel manufacturing company. will this still change any thing as far as a bad reference goes. thanks for your help.

You should be okay. They probably just wanted to save on their labor cost since you were quitting and things were slow.

Did they at least pay you for your last two weeks?
In transportation, this is a common practice when someone puts in two weeks notice. Why? Because it limits the possibility of the driver walking off the job and leaving the truck somewhere. It also lessens the chance that the driver will "recruit" others by talking about where he is going. Many drivers in their last two weeks will get short timers syndrome. They do things like call in sick, or just not show up at all for a run. Believe me, it sucks trying to cover a route at the last minute on a Friday night. -

I'm not gonna tell my boss till after work Friday.

Anyway, 6:45 Monday morning I report fo rmy first day of school.
YEEEEEE HAW! -
Most of the time I try to give a notice as well. Twice by giving a notice I have not been dealt with fairly by the company. A friend of mine always says this. If they are going to get rid of someone will they give them a 2 week notice?
