So, I just check my MVR and I got 3 points for the "Improper Lane Changing" citation that I got in June this year, how screwed am I? How long does points stay on your record and will other companies not hire me because of that? I was considering leaving my current company after a year but sounds like I'll need stay with them for 2 or 3 years, what are my options here?

    Edit: I'm in Florida btw.

PSP points stay on record for 3 years. Every year at the anniversary of the event the harm is cut by 1/3. I can't speak to the affect on changing jobs. Remember you don't get ANOTHER job you get a SPECIFIC job. You only have to worry about that one company's specific hiring criteria. NOBODY should quit a job and then start hunting for a new one. Don't leave your current job until you have the next job lined up. NO COMPANY wants to skip over a driver with blemish on his record, but some will. Some companies have almost a zero-tolerance requirement and some companies have less selective requirement.

You need to keep your record clean unless you like getting a better job more difficult. It does little good to be careful now that you feel the consequences of not being careful enough. Putting obstacles in your path is not how you succeed. Be angry you let yourself make that mistake and don't make other mistakes.

MVR and PSP are different things. If it's on your MVR then you got a ticket, and the time it takes for the points to drop off varies from state to state. As far as the violation, I don't know if it ever "drops off" but after 3-5 years most companies don't care. And many companies will forgive a single violation within a certain time (typically something like "no more than 2 moving violations within the last 3 years" etc).

It must've been a pretty dangerous or radical "lane change" if an officer bothered to waste his time pulling you over and writing a citation. A prospective employer may ask you for a few more details. I'd be prepared to be humble and own it, minimizing it will only send up a red flag.

Yeah, I wouldn't make the mistake of quitting my job before having another one, that's just stupid lol, but I'm more careful now, and I'm staying on my best behavior, I wanted to go to Indian River, a Tanker company out of Winter Haven, Florida, I'll look twice over their website again to see their requirements, depending on what I found, I might have to stay here for another year or two.

How do I check my PSP? And it was 3-4 months ago, I made a post about here, I was driving in NC, near Gastonia citie and a lot of cars was coming in trying to merge and one of them merged right in front of me, so I tried to changed lane so I didn't hit him, another truck was in the middle lane and he had avoid me but in the end hit a pickup truck. We pulled on the side and called the cops, so there was no officer behind me, but I learned my lesson though and I am more careful now, when going through the cities, I stay in the middle lane to avoid the headaches of merging cars.

Yeah, that could've been catastrophic. You got lucky. You don't have to travel in the middle, you just need to hold your lane. If you were in the middle, you would've been the guy who hit the pickup truck. But good to hear everyone is ok

i think you can check your psp online for a small fee, but I've always understood that psp points are accumulated from roadside safety inspection failures. But I'm wrong alot. Best luck, driver

Yes. That's what I do. I don't get these drivers that complain about having to pass on the right.

If it were me, I'd put in an app for Indian River anyway. The worst that can happen is that they'll turn you down. Those points will be on your license for 3 years, because I'm thinking it's a moving violation. You can do a hell of a lot worse than an improper lane change. So how bout this, first thing tomorrow, apply. Then let us know what happens.
