What does a hotshot F-150 truck driver need in and on his CMV truck & trailer to be legal?
This is what I have come up with so far:
fire-extinguisher mounted
spare fuses
DOT flares (couldn't find triangles)
log book (won't ever log as sleeper-berth)
registration/proof of insurance/maintenance folder w/ maint plan in it
on side of cab (usdot#, company name)
Is the truck number required if there is only 1 truck and 1 driver? -and that driver happens to be the owner.
Is a trailer number required too for only 1 trailer?
What lettering is required on the back of the trailer - if any?
I have commerical & for-hire tags
break-away brake on trailer
The truck is <80", so it don't require clearance lights on the cab, however, the trailer's wheels are >100" so the trailer does require certain lights, but it's a 2006 model and should have come with all of the right lights & reflectors. Right? Does my truck need clearance lights too?
Do I need reflective tape anywhere special on the truck or trailer? Do I need mud-flaps?
In the home-office I'll have an "employee" folder with my "application" & MVR in it.
In my wallet I have the medical DOT test card, & CDL-A.
I'll put that green DOT-law book in the cab, and a cheap-camera.
Do I need anything else to be DOT legal for a mostly exempt rig? I do need & have DOT authority & have to be compliant with their requirements, but MC authority & IFTA & all that I'm exempt from requiring.
Tire tread is good & it will pass inspections fine. Will get inspection sticker on truck & trailer tomorrow.
Is it ready to roll?
I got all these done. What else do I need to roll legal?

Be aware with an F 150, you can't carry alot of weight.

You haven't been watching shipping wars have you??
Hard enough loading a 350 and it's a lot more truck than a 150.
Good luck I don't think you'd need anything if trucks under 10,000 and trailer is under 10,000 , don't think you'll find any loads either except usheit.RickG Thanks this. -
get a copy of the DOT green book for all the current rules and regs...

I knew an older fella that hauled pipe out of the same very small pipe company that I did, and he hauled smaller pieces of pipe and specialty parts for that place with a 1500 chevy and a little trailer. I delivered to the world trade center with him a couple of times. He told me they were paying him 900$ for a round out to NYC with these little loads, he said his fuel for the trip was around 125$, not bad money if you ask me!
