You have to show 15 minutes on the pre or post trip per day- by law. If you want to log 15 twice a day you can do that as well.
cozy2963 and Elvenhome21 Thank this. -
Please show that in the regulations.......silenteagle, Mr. PlumCrazy and Roadmedic Thank this. -
You will have a long wait.

You are SUPPOSED to log the actual time it takes to complete the pre-trip & post-trip inspections and complete the required paperwork. Personally, I just flag my pretrip because all I do is check the under hood fluids, fire up the truck, and then check the lights, thump the tires, and make a quick visual check of the truck as I walk around it once. The post-trip is where I do my detailed inspection, since that is when I'd have the time to take care of anything that needs attention.
One other thing to consider, if you show time for your pretrip, your 14 hour clock starts ticking right then & there. If you get held up somewhere during the course of your day, it might mean the difference between making it to your destination or having to shut down 15-30 minutes out. Remember, you cannot DRIVE past the 14th hour...but you CAN be on line 4 past the 14th hour. So, if you arrive home, at the terminal, or wherever right as you are hitting that 14th hour, you can show your post-trip beyond the 14th hour without being in violation of the HOS. However, if you showed that inspection time at the beginning of your day, you would have either driven the last little bit in violation of the HOS or you would've had to shut down a stones throw away from your destination.
Personally, I haven't shown time for a pretrip since the 14 hour rule went into effect...only flag it & then show the line 4 time at the end of the day as a post trip.Zangief, DoneYourWay, Boardhauler and 5 others Thank this. -
Sheez, you guys are brutal, you tore that guy a new one.

Just thinking about the 10 hour break. All I know is the min I go to off duty that's when my 10 hours start. Not aftter the 30 min ride to the house then start the timer. Lol

autocar your right there is no time limit, no minimum or maximum, however it is up to the drivers discretion not the company's. If he needs a half half hour to properly pre trip his veickle that's his option. He is RESPONSIBLE FOR THE SAFE OPERATION OF HIS VEICKLE, period. So bottom line however long it takes for him to verify and inspect his truck to be sure it can be safely operated, that's his perogative. A company cannot tell him the amount of time period. With that said there can be company policy that specifies a minumum of 15 minutes for both pre trip and post trip inspections. You only showed a small portion of the regs. Read on and you will find pre and post trip reguirements. And additional inspection reguirements when pulling tankers and certain hazmat loads. As far as him driving home in a company tractor, all on duty, unless the company gives him a letter, which he keeps in his pocession while on duty, letting him use the tractor for personal use to go home or lunch, etc.... Even a Walmart driver has said letter and can use the tractor for personal use during breaks for food etc.....You need to be very careful in what your saying about pre and post trip inspections. You are reguired to show a pre trip inspection at the beginning of yur trip. A post trip is reguired when ending. Try telling a Federal and State certified DOT officer that and you'll find out how very wrong you are. He does have a case. However without any electronic recording devices like an OBC or electronic logs he will find it very difficult to win, not that he can't. Since our company went EL, it's very cut and dry. Since Congress just gave LaHood his money for EOBCs, get use to it there coming. Then incidents like this will be a thing of the past. By the way he also has a civil case. Keeping him from making a living by not giving him due process and inacurately reporting of his personal work information. with his employer, it's apparent she doesn't know the law or she wouldn't put herself or her company in a possible loss in liability. Again read all the regs not just a few. If you cannot find what I'm talking about, give me a jingle, I'll give you the numbers.
PICNIC, scitechsuperfreak, cozy2963 and 1 other person Thank this.
