Driving the truck tomorrow. We had log book training today. Went OK.. I'm a little confused and class work is done so I am going to study my log a lot!
-
The truck is FUN! I love to drive it even at idle it's awesome!
Did straight line backing and drop and hook. Also looked at pre trip. I'm a little unhappy about the speedy process the instructor took us through on pretrip and felt that it should of been more in depth.
I am very good at 100 foot back but need to get in the white line I am having a distance issue with that. (cant see , not able to tell how close ect)
I need to work on my 45 but I'll get r done!
Drop and hook: Wow does that clutch on the truck dump if you let it out slow at the very end with forward and reverse!
I slamed the king pin with the truck HARD to the point instructor raised closed fist to tell me to stop and yelled! oops well my first day haha...
I don't know what I'm having issues backing to hook up you think that would be simple but it's not. I'll give it a go next week to try and figure it out
Hopefully I'll get some more help with pre trip and things will work out there. Everyone at the school is very nice and I enjoy that. -
I went to this school in aug-sept last year I highly recommend it if you are in the central Illinois area !

Well pre trip today went better. Instructor said I did very well for a first go around (good! hehe)
We bobtailed today and we were learning how to shift and will continue to do so tomorrow. I've had the truck up to 57 mph. It's awesome! Nothing beats a Freightliner Columbia and almost 500 HP of truck!
I had some funny moments learning how to down shift and was caught by my two other class mates and instructor talking to my self in the 3rd person (laughs!!) "ok now nick get on the clutch and put the shifter into neutral, OK now let off the clutch rev the engine to between 1500 and 1800 RPM's and down shift" I'd do that from 10-4th. We stop at 4th and then go back up upshifting and not reving the engine because i'm on the throttle then getting up to RPM's then shifting and usen the upper and lower range gear splitter.
I looked down at the gear "map" showing me how to shift and had the right side drive and steers on the grassy shoulder (we were on a frontage road) I had to counter steer and get back on to avoid tractor jack knife. Woke me up quickly!!
FUN stuff! I love to drive this truck and am VERY happy and feel I have found my calling! -
Rained today spent 10 hours backing. Plan to go on the road tomorrow!
-
I can shift! We drove for 6 hours today on the interstate and 2 lanes. It's awesome!!!
