Sorry guy but here is the hard truth.

The people at ooida and the fmcsa won't be there when you go through a weigh station and get inspected, they will ask you for a few things and the thing they are looking for is going to be an authority because private carries are still subject to needing one as are not for hires and other entities that you think will exempt you.

So to recap this, the officer who is doing the inspection is the only person who matters in all of this because he is the one who can put you out of service, have your truck towed to an impound lot and leave you sitting on the side of the road.

So to others, this is why we need to force the fmcsa to tighten these regulations up, having people just pick up a truck and drive it to move their crap under commercial laws and regulations is part of our problem with our industry.

Well, I spent 2.5 hours looking through the 65 pages of Progressive's Commercial Auto policy provisions with a lice nit comb, and to @Ridgeline 's credit:
There were some places in Progressive's provisions that not just CANCEL the insurance, but VOIDS the insurance policy, which would be a really bad thing, because they would not pay anything at all:

    There was this:

    And this:

    And this:

Sooooooo... I COMPLETELY and UTTERLY came clean with Progressive.

To my surprise, we started quoting a Non-Trucking For Personal Use policy, kinda like bobtail insurance, but a little different because it would cover the trailer.

Didn't know they even had such a thing...

All was going well until we got to the term, which was a minimum of 6 months.. I asked if I could cancel after 7 days, and the guy said "I can't write it if you have an intention to cancel early". which to me sounded like something that would qualify for the bright yellow highlighted portions above. So, he gave me some "Priority Referrals" who specialize in short trip CMV insurance. I thanked him for his time, and hung up.

Moral of the story - don't misrepresent to the insurance company - it's simply not worth it.

We'll see how the rental companies fine print reads in a later post, but next week, I'll call the referred insurance companies, and see how I fare..

@DanTheMan2 -- You never heard material misrepresentation/omission clauses? All insurance policies have them. Many contracts too. How do they insure something you misrepresent to them?

You seem so well researched and that is a surprise to you.

    DanTheMan2 Thanks this.

DanTheMan2 shepishlys says, "I normally would not misrepresent anything, so I've never given it much of a thought... but I've been so driven by this objective, it seems my moral compass got set to California, but I'm in Connecticut... I may need to do a 360, or a couple of figure eight's to recalibrate.."

That's why I love boards like this... helps me check myself before I wreck myself...

Only 9. more months till I move. I still have time to recalibrate.....

Misrepresenting to the insurance company could be considered insurance fraud. They would have insured you under false pretenses.

@DanTheMan2 this is going to pain me to say this, but @Ridgeline is one of the smartest people here. @Chinatown is too. I would consider taking their advice cause it is probably going to be your best bet.

I'm sorry, maybe you didn't get my point. You should have been straight with them from the begining. Should have been no reason to "come clean."

But...no harm no foul, good luck in everything.
