Darn it, I hate being stuck in between...learned to drive OJT with Key back in February, so no school and not enough drive time. Bummer.
I got the call today! Starting work in the oilfields

Well the truck is loaded, hugs and kisses given, lots of tears shed by my wife. I'm making the all night drive to Texas to start my new career. 900 miles and ill be in San Angelo ready to start a new life for us. I'm hoping to have her and the horses down with me in about 60 days. I have an awesome support network of family and friends to help her while I'm getting us started. That is a huge relief and I couldn't do this without them. It's going to be hard being apart, but I know we will be together soon. I'll update you all on how it's going as soon as I can. And if I can be of any assistance feel free to holler. Time to hit the road.

Well I'm all moved in. I got here about noon yesterday after a 14 hour drive. Did all my grocery shopping today and went and found the yard. I start tomorrow. I had a chance to meet one of the drivers this evening and I was pleased with what he had to say about the company and the job. Time for bed, tomorrow is the first day of a new beginning.

Congrats RSQ I will definatley be looking to you for help in October when i'm out of CDL school. If you don't mind me asking where are you living at? Is it hard to find a place to crash and how expensive is it? I was thinking of just staying at an extended stay hotel if needed.
Any and all information is greatly appreciated thank you -
Hey RSQ...just saw your pm. Glad you made it down! Hope to see you in person soon!
Btw...3-5 pm...or am...are the best times to catch drivers at the yard. -
Congrats on the new job! Any updates about the job and how its going? I'll be heading to Big Spring in a couple of days. TIA

Congrats as well. I wonder if what is the average hours drivers are getting and dose Sunoco have housing?

The job is going great. I'll be on my own in a few days. They are firm on being with a trainer for 14 days if you are experienced and I think 25-30 days if you are not. The money is great and there is plenty of oil to haul. I average 11-12 hours a day 5 days a week. We are not paid hourly for those who asked. It is per mile and per barrel plus hourly for the extras like training, breakdown, waiting to load or unload. No there are no camps offered by the company. You must provide your own housing from day one. I'm glad I landed here, seems to be a good job with great pay and benefits.
sanook Thanks this. -
Seems like fewer and fewer are paying by the hour from what I've read. Keep us posted on how things progress. I'm preparing now for a relocation.
