Well the time is here... finally!!! The Swift Academy in Lewiston Idaho has been an experience to say the least. As a 51 yr old ex-driver, it was hard to accept the fact that after having my CDL or Chaufer's License for over twenty years, I had to go to school to get it back. OK enough whining!
A lot of things have changed in this industry and Swift Academy helped me get caught up on the times. While I really felt like an idiot with some of my questions, they all liked hearing about the early eighties on the road, cab-overs, twin-sticks and the like. A 45 ft trailer was an industry standard and length laws kept the COE's in the money lane.
I am looking forward to driving for Swift until such time the economy encourages the O/O's to jump back in. While a lot of folks throw insults at the Not-So-Swift, they have made it possible to get me back on the road when the economy has facilitated my monitary destruction. I pray my wife and kids survive the change, but having Dad home and no food didn't cut it. No Dad at home may allow them to survive.
The people on Truckersreport.com have been very informative. For that I owe a lot and plan on boring you all with my opinions as life educates me in todays trucking industry.
Bottom line... Swift Academy is like a trusted friend, it will help you through and leave you with pride in your journey.
    May God bless you all!

Congratulations. Have fun w your mentor. I recommend you get in touch with Bluebonn through this forum. He is an exceptional teacher and I taught him how to take care of us more mature drivers. You will learn a lot and have fun doing it.

Check out my post on the "miles" thread about life as a solo driver. This is an awesome job. I spent over 35 years in construction and I am having a blast and, most importantly, able to hold my head up and not feel like a failure looking for a job where there are none.

    Drive careful and have fun!

Welcome back Round2. I am looking forward to reading your posts and watching as you experience the new world of trucking and compare it to the old. Stay safe and be sure to ask if you have any questions, there are lots of good people on here that can get you through most problems.

OK another old has been back for more just like me. I hate to reinvent myself at 59 but oh well. I remember well the 10 wheeler Auto Car dump with a quad box no power steering and the model B Mack with no heat in Jan in NH. I thought I died and went to heaven in my 82 KW with a 3406 425 HP i didnt care if i had to put everything back in place after checking the oil. and the long nose Pete with a 1271 and 411 gears would go 100 anytime no one passed me on the new jersey turnpike but alas those days are gone, Just like having to walk to school in FEB uphill both directions. Anyway welcome back this tired old man appreciates all the nice stuff in these rigs today I will be happy with my apu 2500 watt inverter air ride power steering auto transmission gps. I could skip the sateliite to message dispatch all day long but oh well

I am having a hard time believing it but I had a brain fart during my state test. I guess I was more nervous than I thought. I was running through the pre-trip and started the break test without the breaks released. Simply brain dead! Now I have to pay another $100 and take the test again next Saturday. Of all the times to screw up! Many have said that they or someone they know did the same thing but that doesn't seem to make me feel less foolish.
